I have a 75g Saltwater aquarium which i am in the process of re-vamping after an ich attack wiped out everything. Today i took out all of the live rock and the 1 fish i had left(dont worry i released them back tot he wild) and gave the tank a thorough cleaning (i didnt bother changing any water, i did a 20% change not too long ago) I also added a PhosBan reactor using SeaChem PhosGuard.

I have a Fluval 405 Canister filter, a seio 620gph Powerhead, a Phosban Reactor, a 200watt Aqueon heater, and a coral life aqualight retro fit

Since i live in the bahamas it is not as easy as going on over to the pet store and buying rocks and fish.... I have to go looking for them (and it can be difficult finding un-diseased fish)... In a few days i plan to go out for a few fish and some rock...

I was wondering what is a good amount of rock to put in, and what are some average evap. rates for a 75 gallon salty, my temp is holding at 80...too much????

right now all my test results are good...just waiting for some fish

Photos to come in a day or two

(1) Temp should sit between 78F-83F without drastic fluctuations over short periods of time. If you are sitting at 80F then that is good.

(2) Rock quantity in terms of lbs will vary as some rock is more dense than others so it is hard to put a number on things. Just put in as much as you feel makes you happy.

(3) Evaporation will vary with tanks. It all depends on a number of factors. Just watch things and take note. Remember to only add freshwater when evaporation occurs for top off's (rodi as a preferred water source) as salt won't evaporate so you don't want to replace with salt water.

Must be nice living in paradise. We all should be so lucky

Hello Everyone,
Glad to say my aquarium is back up to par with which can be expected.
In terms of rock i got about 40lbs today and i must say it is beautiful,

Didn't get too much wild life today, just Red-Spotted sand perch and a long tail morray (I think) the eel is only about 5" long.

Never kept an eel before any tips???

I plan to upload pics tonight

Eels are predatory fish so you can expect a bit more waste in the tank and a bit more work keeping the waste to a minimum. Also, remember to keep the tank covered as they will climb out. Where the rock is concerned, it must be nice to be able to collect your own. With that said, if you added the new rock directly to the tank, then you can possibly expect a cycle from whatever die-off you experience. If you were fighting any algae issues before, then chances are they may continue until things balance out.

I was fighting algae but about 2 weeks before i added the rock i had it under control...pretty much all of it was dying off, do you know anything about what i should feed eels???

They will like meaty foods. The local supermarket may sell frozen squid which is one thing they will usually readily take.

right now i only have some live rock a little bit of coral, no fish, just a sea urchin and a few crabs,
I am looking to add probably a crawfish, a tang (i haven't decided an exact type), a coral banded shrimp, and maybe a blennie
