    So i checked out the water machine today and it said carbon filtering, ro and uv filtering twice, nothing about di. I pay $.41 per gallon at Safeway for this, if i drive a little farther out of the way I can get ro/di at a lfs. It seems I would be better off in the long run making the drive...

    New Tripod

    I got the 190x with a standard 3 point adjusting head. I almost opted for the carbon fiber model, but it almost doubled the price of the tripod alone, and only shed 1 lbof weight. I love the interchagable heads, no need to buy multiple tripods.

    Protein Skimmer or Macro algae

    Thanks for all the input, I think I might try the skimmer first as that seems to be the more traditional route. I would lilke to try the macro maybe in conjunction like skimmy said down the line.

    Where does your water come from??

    The sign on the front of the machine says ro, di, and uv filtering. I might be mistaken on the di part, but it's my only real option until I get a ro/di unit. Just curious if using distilled water in the meantime would be better than the water from the machine. Thanks, Lee

    Ya, I probably should have tested the salinity instead of just pouring it in and assuming the salinity was right. Live and learn, I learned the hard way what phosphates were; when I set the tank up filled it with the hose from outside. Needless to say about three weeks later I had a decent algae...

    New Tripod

    I have a Manfrotto tripod as well and love it. I can only afford one expensive hobby at a time, and good lenses cost a ton. I do love my Canon 7d camera though.

    Where does your water come from??

    I was getting purified natural seawater for water changes, but switched to ro/di after the store upset my wife. I either get my water from a lfs or Safeway (via water purification machine). Am I missing out on any benefits not using the natural sea water?
