    Pump Question

This is really interesting since I have a similar setup also and I have not yet decided how to plumb the seaswirl. I think I read 1/2" seaswirl can only handle up to 500gph, so I have not been thinking using so powerful of a pump.

    question about 6 line wrasse

Wow, according to that article, six-lines and assessor will not co-exist. Good thing my six-line did not read that :) Of course he is no where near being the top fish in my tank, since he's smallest.

    Need some input on lightings

so 250W is not overkill then? I think I'd go with MH for sure if I have 175W ballast, just 250W seems a bit much

    Need some input on lightings

Sigh, I have been going back and worth about what lighting to use and still cannot decide. I am hoping for some input/vote/comment. My setup: 55g 36"L x 18"W x 20"H. Livestock plan are softies and later LPS and possible anenome later. Here are my light choices, along with what I thought as...

    Mounting VHOs in hood

Any one know of a good place here in Seattle to get anodized polished aluminum sheet for a DIY reflector? Or some other sort of reflector materials? Thanks.

    Mounting VHOs in hood

I am thinking about using 3-4. maybe i can hang them on a frame from the top of the hood, and make some way to make it stay up when I need it to. will try to think of something :)

    Mounting VHOs in hood

No MH, but I did think about it hence the 12" hood :) Yes, the VHO's I have also have internal reflector (URI brand). Hrm, 4"-6". I need to figure out a way to mount them that low and still be able to access the tank.

    Mounting VHOs in hood

I am wondering how low should I mount VHO's. I have a 12" high hood so I think mounting at the top would be way too high. Also how important are reflector with URI VHO? Thanks.

    Acrylic scratch removal kit

Thanks a bunch. I feel a little better. It is such a bummer to make a ding after my year long (ok i am very slow) setting it up and it is finally getting close. Joyce

    Acrylic scratch removal kit

While aquascaping tonight a piece of rock fell and of course put a ding on the front of the acrylic tank  I have seen those acrylic scratch removal kit (has multiple grade of wet sanding paper). My question is how well does it work? I don't know if I'd mess it up further by trying to...

    Rachel's Baby

May I ask if you used any zip ties, epoxy etc for aquascaping? I am in the process of aquascaping and wondering if I can just "stack" rocks and still have a good-looking and stable rock work. Thanks!

Too much light for a beginning softie tank?

Are 4 36" 96W VHO too much light or heat for a beginning softie tank (60 gallon about 20" deep)? My plan is start with softies and may add lower light requirement LPS later after some reef experience. No plan on sps or clams. I was going to start with 2 VHOs, but I just realized that the used...

    Fire shrimp

Thanks :) No the fire shrimp will not be in the same tank as the coral banded shrimp. Actually mine is really shy, maybe the gold variety is more docile. It is definitely smaller compare to the regular red and white ones. Maybe fire shrimp would work afterall, since I am planning a low-medium...

    Fire shrimp

I heard somewhere that fire shrimp hides all the time in the aquarium, is that true? I am considering getting a couple but if I can't see them it is rather pointless regardless of how pretty they are :( I have a cleaner shrimp and he's great, always in view and very bold. Also have a gold...

    Anti Syphon hole problem

I am trying to setup a new tank and am testing it with tap water. For some reason the anti-syphon hole is not working very well. The hole (a little less than 1/4" diameter) is slowing down the water flow but it is not enough to stop it :( I drilled another hole and still no good. Then I tried...

    neon dottyback/arabian psuedochromis

Thanks :) That's what I am afraid of which is too bad, they are such pretty fish. I guess I'll stick with orchid dottyback if I really want one. Thanks again.

    Anemone question

Sorry this is a little off-topic. I am wondering if you can tell me what lighting you used on that tank? Also how deep is the tank? I have a 29G tall and I am thinking about upgrading the lighting. Thanks! Joyce

    neon dottyback/arabian psuedochromis

How aggressive is it? I know all dottybacks are territorial, but I heard some are better than others. I heard orchid dottyback is the least aggressive, do you know about neon dottyback? It is definitely the prettiest in my book and I'd love to have one. But I have tried a bi-color dottyback and...

Thanks. I'll keep it in mind when I do decide to do that in the future :) My wish list is getting longer and longer

    Earthquake, how to prepare?

Yeah, we always need excuses to upgrade anyway cookieman :) I guess I'd worry less if not for that metal frame stand... I can already rock it by slight pushing. I cant tlel how easy it'll tilt since I know there's no way I can hold it back if I suceed. Maybe I'll get a better thand that has a...
