Discussion of the Week ~ coral feeding~

I dont feed and everything is ok? I dont really feed mytank at all - but its much smaller than mojo's and I dont filter agressivly either, so maybe they "get what they need"? The only animals I've lost for lack of food are some big featherdusters...and a mandarin :( shrooms, colt, capnella...

On-line artical, "reef" status post NEMO.

It really makes me think that there is some serious money making potential in aquaculture...if it gets regulated, supply get limited, costs go up...

    This weeks discussion " Additives

this is definitely unscientific, and not well disciplined, but its what I've been doing for a bout a year and all of my corals are doing well with regular new head growth on my candy cane and torch corals. I dose with seachem calcium about 5x/week and when my pH starts to have more than a .2-.3...

    Steve Tyree Presentation

MojoMike - I noticed on your set up that you run live sponges WITH massive skimming and UV? This seems contrary to what Steve was saying so I'm curious to know how your sponges are doing, and where your "technological" filtration is in-line wrt the sponge box? thanks!

    fin rot?

update I lost the Tang -- but the clowns seem very happy and are exhibiting mating behavior...would the clowns do this to a much larger fish?

    pods?

Hi Matt - sounds like things are really nice in your tank. Be sure not to over feed though (I think Mojo skipped the word "not"). Most of your corals are probabally photosynthetic - so in my opinion I'd prefer to keep the water quality high (clean and not breaking down excess nutrients) and...

    pods?

:) you may have answered your own question. Give it some time and see what happens. I have noticed a "pod" cycle - there is predator/prey relationship in zooplankton that should find some balance. Keep you eyes out for a very cool criller on your glass that will "hood" over a small "flea"...

September Frag Swap!!! - Make Trades Here...

Paul - I may have that candycane you are looking for. It's a pretty good size piece. How many "heads" do you want? I've never fragged it before...how far down should I crack it?

    fin rot?

I have a yellow tang in a 9 month old reef that is otherwise fine except for some fin "rot". its not visibly rotting (no white) but it looks like its being eaten away. The most interetsing thing is that it's only on the trailing edge, and infact started with the corners of the tailfin. Any...

    Are they starving?

just my opinion but 10 fish (depending on type) may be a bit much for a 55 w/an eclipse. I don't have any experience with an eclipse on SW, but I do currently use one on a FW, and although they are good, they have enough circulation power to "turn" the tank as much as you may need.

How long have you been a PSAS member?

the borneman meeting was my 1st meeting also - it got me interested in the club, and my dues have been a good investment this past year. (paying) Member only speakers is a great idea.

September Frag Swap!!! - Make Trades Here...

I have a very large tree coral - its about 10-12" high and its "canopy" is probabally a good 8"-10". Its a beautiful piece, but takes up almost 25% of my 50 gallon. Since it's so big, I'm only going to bring it if someone is interested in a trade. I can post pictures (and confrim species - it...

    best advice ever?

This is gold. Posted by Mojoreef in a reply 8/16/03 To true -- the bigggest problem is that the moron cycle can just go on, and on, and on...:)

    Silent killer

Healthy, happy fish – then “poof”. I actually spent some time looking behind the tank when the when the wrasse went – I thought he could have jumped. It’s a 45 with a refugium – about 65-70 lbs. of LR. I don’t think they were competing for food. Only had the wrasse for less...

    Silent killer

I’ve lost two fish recently and I’m not sure why – all water parameters are excellent. The fish were a nice (and expensive) wrasse and a mandarin. The only thing that I can think of that these fish have in common is that they are relatively sedentary. I have a pair of clowns and a tang...

    not a frag

Can we change the name to this topic board to "livestock" trade? I've got a sand sifting star that needs a new home. Will trade for anything compatible and appropiate for my tank, inc frags.
