    o2manyfish - Skimmer Comparison

The Toto never made it into the competition. Ease of installation and size are a couple of the areas where the Toto was weak. The Toto "Thunder Loo 600" was too hard to plumb into the test tank and took up so much space no other skimmers would fit.

    Skimmer riser modifications

That's one use although my ozonizer doesn't run very often. I run carbon in a filter sock. I'm thinking of dumping the sock and want a nice way to use carbon.

    Skimmer riser modifications

All, I have an ASM G2 (like a Euro-Reef). I want to add something to the riser to redirect the water so I can pass the water over carbon. So I'm looking for ideas and pictures of how to do this. Remember, I still need to be able to adjust the riser up and down to adjust the skimmer. Thanks, Ted

God! Can I be old enough to remember airstones in lift tubes of an undergravel filter with little skimmate cups that mounted on top of the riser? Every week, remove the wooden airstone and scrape it to rejuvenate it.... Don't miss that stuff.

    tunze wave box

Tunze Wavebox I watched the wavebox at IMAC last June. It is neat. The only thing I didn't like was that you need to use an optical sensor to watch for overflowing waves. There is a possibility of a build up of wave resonance that could cause the waves to get larger and larger and then overflow...

    John Brancheau Slimmer

An interesting way to measure growth might be to glue the frag to a rock and weigh it. Then weigh the rock as time progresses. Most, but not all, of the weight change will be from the coral as it builds structure.

Madison, Good point. Many things go into to determining which skimmer is best for a given situation. Ted

Don, After learning how to dial-in my ASM G2, I am very happy. It is more skimmer than I probably need on my 90g tank but I don't think it is excessive. Im not sure I will ever know that I have "enough" skimmer. I can only know that between the skimmer, water changes, carbon, etc., the water...

    Calcium Reactor Set Up

Thanks to o2manyfish and DonW I want to thank both Dave and Don for the info gleaned from them both over the last week. Thanks to this information, my Ca, dKH and pH levels are back where I like them and the system is starting to hum again. Over the last month or so, I have had some issues...

    o2manyfish - Skimmer Comparison

But isn't the point of this testing to determine which skimmer is "stronger"? Before it needs cleaning, the stronger skimmer is pulling harder. It seems to me that if all the skimmers are regularly cleaned during the testing (and from what I have seen, they are), then the stronger skimmers will...

    Skimming conversation

One of my biggest disappoints with today's skimmers is "ease of adjustment". There is a learning curve to where you adjust the riser tube (or gate valve, etc.) with every skimmer. When you take the skimmer out to clean it, you need to find the sweet spot again and the more you have had to fiddle...
