Hi Terry, I came across this female of the species genicanthus semifasciatus at a well respected LFS 2.5 weeks ago and she seems to be quite the tame fish. The store once I inquired said they had had the fish for over 4-5 weeks and knowing I would take care of the fish they almost gave her to me.

Anyway, she has been eating spirulina flake, PE brand mysis shrimp and she is not real big on enriched brine shrimp. They had been feeding her pellets.

Does this diet sound aqeduate??? She is very full looking in her belly and is so tame I'm amazed.

Thanks for any info.

There is not much information available here in the USA on this species because it is a rare find here. You may have better luck getting information from Japanese sites. They can be hardy if they come in good shape. It is a midwater feeder eating plankton. I suggest trying some frozen Pacifica plankton, mysis and some frozen spirulina added to the diet. I would not put it with any aggressive fish. You may find that it is not real fussy about what it eats, but it is best to give them foods close to their natural diet when possible. It will probably eat small peices of shrimp especially uncooked. I like to give fish a very wide variety of foods and offer at least 3 or 4 types a day even if you only feed them once.

Cheers,
Terry B

Thank you Terry..... I've never been accused of being a stingy fish feeder so whatever this fish needs I'll get and I do feed 2x a day. It took a couple of days to identify this fish beyond genicanthus. The link Ted provided is where I finally saw the exact species. She is in very good health and swims all day long. The first day and a half was torture as my tang chased her, now everyone is completely at ease.

Thanks again for the info.

Ted, I'll try to get some pics of her, I don't have a camera. The link you provided is where I finally saw the exact species of genicanthus she was. Now what I'd give to stumble across a male like I stumbled across her.
