How Many Tanks Do You Have Set-up?

Well, not really sure how you count it, but I have a 450 main tank for my reef and a 150 connected to it with rock, a few fish and some corals for grow out, so I guess that's two. I also have a 37 gallon in my office and I will soon have a 350 gallon mainly fish only, actually fish, rock, Zoos...

    Ordering a Custom Built Tank

Yes, I have an Interamerican tank from Mitch. The only problem is timing. I ordered mine late August and Mitch gave me an October 31 date. I told him December 1 was fine, but to shoot for Thanksgiving. He was done mid January which ended up being fine since the Builders were even later. The...

    Vortech Pump

Rumor has it they will be priced very close to the Tunze 6100, who knows until we actually see them retail.

    Vortech Pump

My initial thought were to use it with two or three inlets/outlets on each side with the basket strainers. Flow directionality would be primarliy strainght out of the strainer, but spread out in a broader pattern by the basket, creating a much broader flow pattern, like the Tunzes, maybe even...

    Vortech Pump

See what I mean, really cool. We'll have to wait and see how they hold up. All that switching of directions has to be hard on the thing mechanically. The Controller is already done as well and was part of that display. Only drawback - made by the same folks that brought us Rio pumps, TAAM...

    Vortech Pump

The best way to find out more is to check out the thread on them over at www.zeovit.com about a "new toy". Thread starter was O2manyfish (Dave B.) There are also pics on the Interzoo thread over there.

    Vortech Pump

That's too bad. I was hoping to be able to pick up some cheap Tunzes with the rush for these. Have any of you guys seen the Polario pump? It claims something like 10,000 gph on less than 100 watts. It has outlets/inlets on either side to fit 2" PVC and can alternate directions. Think of it...

    Kicking myself (need ID)

The second pic definitely looks like a Lyretail (squamapinnis) and I do not know about the first. It may be a different type. I have 8 Lyretail Anthias in my 450. If that is what the one is, it is very hardy as far as Anthias go. I have had all eight of mine for almost two years. Good Luck.

Securing over the top return w/ spaflex

Yes, Hone Depot has them. They are sold as a package if I remember right with the Zip ties and the anchor. The anchor is nothing more than a little square piece of plastic with a raised slot to slide the Zip tie through. The anchor even has some foam tape of the back to secure it. I have...

    A few new fish pics

Just an update since I stumbled on this old thread. Sorry to say, but I lost the Clown Tang last summer. Everyone else is doing great. The Conspic eats out of my hand and still prefers Flake and sheet algae over anyhting else, still doesn't bother corals or clams. The Tusk is still in the...

New Tank on the way - have a couple quesions

The stand, canopy and tank are all under construction. The tank is beign made by James at Envision Acrylics and should be done late May, early June. The stand and Canopy are being made by Chris Crow at CrowsRidge (a sponsor here) and should turn out awesome. I am really looking forward to...

New Tank on the way - have a couple quesions

I just ordered a 375 gallon acrylic tank from Envision Acrylics. It is going to be a Corner Pentagon with back sides and main viewing panel 60" wide with front "wings" 18" wide. It will be 32" tall. The overflow will be in the back corner with a 2" main drain, 1.5" backup drain and 1.5"...

    Who's been to Vegas??

Try Mystere at Treasure Island. It's over ten years old nad sometimes not as heavily booked as other Cirque shows. It's also my favorite. Also try La Rev at The Wynn. I have heard they are having a tough time getting audience. Forget Blue Man Group unless you are extremely intoxicated or...

    Need thoughts on cylinder tank

I am pretty much set on cutting the tank down to make it more manageable, but that is provided they can actually locate the tank and it is not already at the Liquidators. Right now, my contact says the tank is gone (already at the Liquidators) and the Liquidators say they don't have...

    Shark Pool

Just because it's been done, doesn't make it right. A pool 10' in diameter and 4' deep is roughly 2400 gallons. Does that sound big enough for a Black Tip? Nurse sharks get downright huge. The book sounds like a good resource. I would start there. Good luck with it.

    Shark Pool

I hate to say this, but your LFS look to be very good, in this respect. Sharks are better left in the ocean. That being said, think Olympic sized swimming pool or more for an active shark. There are sharks that are less active and would not require quite so much space. The New Orleans...

    Need thoughts on cylinder tank

We're still trying to track the tank down. My friend is in Sales and Marketing so he isn't directly involved and has to go through a few people to find out anything and they have moved it since last Thursday. I'll let you know, but I am leaning towards cutting the tank in half or more. If I...

    Need thoughts on cylinder tank

I use two of the 1000 series Sequence pumps on my reef and they don't add much heat. The room is at 75 degrees and the reef is at 77 in the morning (goes up to 79 after the lights have been on all day). Based on this water volume and the much-reduced lighting, I don't think heat will be that...

    Need thoughts on cylinder tank

Yea, speculating on this with no real details is tough, but fun to think about. The biggest question I have is how to service the thing from the top. I am hoping the canopy has some sort of access so I don't have to go over the top. Getting on top of a 12' ladder everyday just to feed the...
