    Tank Cleaning?

I'm running a DSB in the refugium with cheato so I let the critters in there clean up. Occasionally I'll take a snail or hermit out of the main tank and put it into the refug for a few days if I see some unwanted algae. WHen I first started I used to do a 1 gallon a day WC (it's only 29)...

    Tank Cleaning?

I do a 20% WC every other week, skimmer cup every other day maybe let it go to three days (new skimmer as of yesterday so we will see). Front of tank gets scraped when coraline starts forming, I don't touch the back or sides (got a tuxedo urchin and he needs his coraline). Other than that I...

    best HOB skimmer

Today I picked up a SWC BH 500 to put on my 29 long. Had an AquaC remora and a coralfe 100 on before. I wanted a single solution that I could also use later when I get a bigger tank. The thing is HUGE! So far only issue is the there are some large bubbles coming out of the return. Also...

    SWC 100f or 500?

I have a 29long tank with a 10 gallon refuge. No room below for an in sump skimmer (I run a 5inch DSB with cheato). I currently have a aquaC remora and a seaclone 100 (seaclone pulls more junk than the remora and I know there both junk). I was looking to get rid of two and go to a single...

    ID Acro, first one ever

All, Never had SPS cprals, only soft and LPS. My daughter knew I wanted to try some so she picked me up a frag from a pet store out of town but she didin't write down what kind it was. I was looking for some help in IDing it. Thanks! Jan 1.JPG - Windows Live

    ID Clownfish

Thanks for the reply. I checked around and found some info that said true percs had 10 spines (rarely 9) on the dorsal and thicker black lines where as Occs have 11 (rarely 10) and thinner black lines. Given that info I too have come to the conclusion that it's a true perc. I guess if I want...

    ID Clownfish

I've had this mean bugger since day 1 (5 years ago). It has killed every fish I put in the tank except for a 6 line wrasse I had and it never touched the seahorses, shrimp, etc. I don't want to get rid it because it was my first saltwater fish. Anyway I need help in identifying as it was...

    RO/DI water pressure

Not an RO/DI expert by any means but I think if you are below that max pressure you just create more waste water and the unit isn't as efficient (more frequent replacement of RO/DI cartridges). If you have a large tank and need that 150 GPD per day then it's probably worth it. If you are like...

For better or worst /changing salt mix

Over the past five years I've switched from Kent, to IO, then Reef Crystals, then Tropic Marin Pro, and now use Salinity. Never had any issues as I used the 'new' stuff for 20% or so water changes. The tank only had LPS and softies but did have some seahorses (there supposed to be sensitive I...

    Algea Bloom

If they are vermetid snails they they don't move. They are more like a tube worm or I saw a post one day that said 'fishing snail' because they emit a catch line thread from the top. I have a bunch in my tank. Again not sure that's what they are, just a best guess.

    Help ID please. Baby Anemone?

I have two strawberries, one is about hte size of a quarter and it's tentacles reach out about an inch at night. The other is about the size of an eraser on a pencil. My understanding is once they get that big they can take down little fish (hectors goby, etc).

    Snails keep dieing

Hermits will kill the snails also if they don't have anything to eat. No more hermits for me.

    fluval fx5 ....

I had a fluval 404 that I used for circulation (no media) when I first switched from FW to SW. Nothing but a detris trap and nightmare trying to control nitrates and phosphates. Got rid of the fluval and bought a refugium for under then stand. Stopped a lot of problems.

HELP Hawaiian feather lost it head twice

I've never had any luck with feathers. They seemed to be doing great and then a few weeks later...what you described. No corals were touching mine. After two tries I decided to stop killing them and wasting my money. The only other casualties I had were due to my mean true perc (he got along...

What salt mix are SPS-ers here using?

Can't really say I'm an SPS-er since I just got my first one. Small tank, 29 long with Favia, waving hand anthelia, blue mushrooms. Tank has been up about 5 years, swtiched from TM Pro to Salinity about 3 months ago. TM pro was still a little low in Ca. So far so good, lots of pineapple...
