If I lift the hood I can still see the fish, or must you see them through the glass?

I don't have an excuse to clean my tank as everything is automated. The only thing that is not automated is cleaning the front glass and I use a Great White magnet with a Dozer from mighty magnet to get the coralline off. I clean my tank, change filters, clean skimmer every two weeks.
As far as the sump is concerned, I normally clean the deitrus from the bottom every 8-12 months. I use a Wet vac to ensure everything is squeaky clean.

I do a 20% WC every other week, skimmer cup every other day maybe let it go to three days (new skimmer as of yesterday so we will see). Front of tank gets scraped when coraline starts forming, I don't touch the back or sides (got a tuxedo urchin and he needs his coraline). Other than that I might clean the refugium out once a year. I've learned the more I screw with my tank the more I screw it up. So leaving it alone (unless there is some problem) is usually the best solution. (but it's awefully hard to follow my own advice in that matter).

Hmmm, I'm still a newbie at a little less than a year, so I clean the glass, replace the filter sock, and empty and clean the skimmer cup on Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday. I scrape the sides and back of the display, replace carbon, and do a 20% water change every three weeks. I usually syphon any detritus out of the sump when I do water changes.

I'm running a DSB in the refugium with cheato so I let the critters in there clean up. Occasionally I'll take a snail or hermit out of the main tank and put it into the refug for a few days if I see some unwanted algae. WHen I first started I used to do a 1 gallon a day WC (it's only 29) which was fine when I was home. I started traveling and the maint went downhill. Other than losing some high maint occupants (seahorses) everything was OK.
