The price on Yellow Tangs have jumped

Well being here in LA, and being able to pick fish from the large wholesalers, I did notice the price go up on the Yellow significantly in the last year or so. I think for meds, yellows I bought in the past 60 days are about 3x more than yellows purchased 18months ago. The Blue Hippo's have...

    Anyone running ozone?

I have been using Ozone for 20+ years now. Once you get educated about the properties of ozone you will learn how easy it is to use safely. Ozone is super unstable. If it bumps into anything it falls apart. So it's dying to break apart. The carbon is merely a media to splash the ozone treated...

    Bubbles?

It depends if you are drawing the air in before or after the impeller. If you are pulling air in before the impeller, and then chopping the air, their is the potential for microbubbles so small that they can be detrimental to livestock. However, air bubbles in general are only an issue for...

    Reefing the next 20 years

I recently saw a presentation for Coral Aquaculture facility in South East Asia. They are able to farm corals in huge quantities (1000's of pcs per week) and will be providing Farm Raised G5-G7 corals to the US market in probably another 24 months. But the neat thing is they are...

Wich kalkwasser/Nielsen reactor to choose ?

Depending on the size of the reactor - You need to look at the different means for stirring. The magnetic stirrers are noisy and in a larger reactor with a deep reserve of kalk on the bottom, have a high probability for getting stuck in the kalk sludge. Those with pumps to mix have...

    Hi anthony !

Sure Calfo... Lie to poor Gina. Like you ever have free time when you come to LA :) Keeping a beer on ice for your visits would be a waste of a cold beer - LOL Have you talked to Scotty lately ? I don't think he has done anything to move forward with his tank. We did have some...

Too many bubbles in the water?

My surge tank (33g) cycles every 90secs to 2min throughout the day. It starts with a blast of bubbles as it clears the air from the line. I have seen no ill effects from the tank being filled with bubbles on a regular basis. Also any shallow water reef in the wild, will have a constant...

    ahh crap help!!!!

Hard to tell from the photos, but the silicone should be holding in the seam where the two panels abutt each other. Not the joint (corner) where they come together. It looks like the silicone in question is just the excess on the panel, and not within the joint - I would not worry about it...

    Fragging Coral

Frag corals when you want or need to. Depending on the health of the system, an acropora will cover a fragged area with tissue pretty quickly (some instances just a couple of days). LPS depend on the particular a coral - A frogspawn that grows in a wall shape (one piece of coral the LPS...
