L.E., Tyree, true, fake and what not :p

As to what is the "real" superman... A couple years ago, a guy I think by the name of Tubs found a monti with the bright blue base w/red polyps. I think Tyree got his from him. Then recently more and more of those monti types have been coming in but most don't seem to have the same level of...

    Austrailian Corals

Morgan, Its just not Blue Sierra that is importing them. Australia seemed to have changed their regulation to allow some exportation of corals. There is a bunch of stores in Canada and the US that seems to have them available recently.

    Acro Troubles

Not saying the calcium is the problem but some corals like certain acros are just more sensitive than other sps to water conditions that are not optimal. When my water chemistry was off a while ago cause I was trying to dial in a reactor, my stylo never seemed bothered while my acro frags lost...

    RBTA wasting away

Food will definitely help the anemone thrive and cope with stress but I've seen them live with no direct feeding. But you'd end up with much slower growth. There was a study done in Hawaii or somewhere where they raised giganteas to full size with no feeding at all. The food thing would not...

    RBTA wasting away

I doubt its chemical warfare as it seems SPS are the ones that usually loses that kind of battle. Plus you're running carbon already. Like what others have said, I would be surprised if the Ph was causing all the problem. I know they recommend giving anemones the full salinity of NSW. Mine...

    FedEx Rant

True...but when they put on that uniform, they represent the company and the company is ultimately responsible for quality control. It reflects poorly on the company if they don't get a handle on lackadaisical employees...which most companys I'm sure are not in short supply of. I always just...

    Keeping tanks in apartments

UWScotch had this rigid plastic lining thing under his tank with a lip on it so that it would catch some of the water that might accidentally flood from the tank. I don't think it would hold all of the tank water but its a pretty good precaution. If I lived in an upstairs apartment, I would...

    Emerald crab questions

Do you have dinoflagellate algae (the goey looking algae)? I read that some of it can be toxic for snails and I am assuming crabs.

    elegance (elegant) coral experience?

Brenden, Was the elegance being fed regularly? And what was the signs right before it died...did the flesh detach from the skeleton, did you see white filaments around the edges where it was attached to the base?

    elegance (elegant) coral experience?

You can upload your pics to photobucket.com. Seems like people in England are having better success with elegances for some reason.

Yup. Get a good boil and you should be good.

    elegance (elegant) coral experience?

People have tried the feeding, high/low light, high/low flow, clean/dirty tank and everything in between it seems with little to no success unfortunately.

    washing seashells

You could boil them if you want to make sure all life is gone.

    elegance (elegant) coral experience?

Apprentice, What was the decline like on the one that lasted a year? Was it a gradual thing or a rapid onset and what were the symptoms preceding the decline? I'm surprised it died after a year in the tank. I would have thought it was a keeper after that long...since it seems most die within 2...

    New Oregon Blue Tort

Did you ever figure out why you lost the previous torts? Not sure its the lighting because in my previous tank, I had couple O tort frags near the top right under 10k and 20k 250 DE MH. I've seen them right under 400w 10K which they seem to thrive under.

    turn CO2 off at night?

Here's a link to check out. It has a section on low ph and ca reactors and what to do about it. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-09/rhf/index.php

    turn CO2 off at night?

It can drop the ph in the tank but not enough you would want to stop using it. You could do a reverse light refugium at night or dose kalk to offset the ph drop.
