Hi all,
Hay I have a question for you.
I have lost two emerald crabs in two days now. One was good sized and was healthy that I could see and the other I knew was not doing good.
So do they live long? How long have yours lived so far?

Im not sure how much role DKH plays in it. I did some searching and read a post about in some ones tank they only lost snails in high DKH. Mine is at 11.

Its just odd to me to loose two in two days.
Thanks again!

Do you have dinoflagellate algae (the goey looking algae)?
I read that some of it can be toxic for snails and I am assuming crabs.

Did your crabs have enough to eat? Is it possible that they starved? From what I know of Emeralds, they're mainly herbivores. I've never seen mine eat anything but algae..but that doesn't mean they won't I suppose. I have no idea on lifespan but mine are both about 8 months old. One seems to have grown a lot faster than the other.

I have 2 that are about 3 yrs. old. Bigger than heck (actually I need to get them out!) They will croke if temp gets over 86

Nope no gooy algea, and ya I have quite a bit of some kind of algea. Not like hair but thin and patchy gets kinda long maybe an inch.
So I dont think its a food issue, unless they dont like the algea thats in the tank.
I have 1 emerald that has grown 3 times the size of all the others.
Are they a crap shoot at the algea they eat?
