    Giant Sea Worm

They stay hidden until dark of night. Any light or movement will send them blasting back into the rock, and they are as fast as small bristle worms if not faster. Blink and you will miss it even at 12 inches long. I have caught mine "out" at night and tried to grab him but have only gotten about...

    Giant Sea Worm

I have one in my tank. Its about 9 inches long and I have tried to trap and grab it with large tweezers in the dark of night. No luck so far. He resides in my base rock and removal of it is not an option, as my rock is epoxied together and SPS are encrusted everywhere. Mine is an Eunice or...

    Emerald Crab and Bryopsis

Twallace, What level did you raise to? I am at 1650 right now and wonder if I need to go up as it might be working, but really really slow.

    Emerald Crab and Bryopsis

4 types of urchins did not touch it in my tank. But they sure went after the coralline, they think its candy!

    Emerald Crab and Bryopsis

Thanks, I am doing the TechM right now, just thought I might hit it from all angles if anyone had luck. Looks like I will keep the mithrax out of my system!

    Emerald Crab and Bryopsis

Has anyone had luck with an emerald crab eating bryopsis?

    Odyssea 48' HQI 250watt

So its a decent setup if I run icecap ballasts? I want just the HQI and not the setup with the additional lights so that wont be but 200.00 to switch out ballasts and planned on upgrading bulbs anyway. Is there a setup that would be better for just two 250w HQI ?

    Odyssea 48' HQI 250watt

I figured the bulbs would be garbage, but had hopes the rest would be ok. Planned on using higher grade bulbs. I contacted them about the type of ballast and they really did not give me any info except to state they are not pulse start ballasts. And if the ballast and bulbs are no good...whats...

    Is this an Elegeance Coral?

Elegance has been on the no buy list for about three years. It appears that a type of bacteria was infecting them after gathering and while in holding areas to be shipped. They only last about a month, but if shipped soon, look healthy at the LFS. Then the tentacles shrink and the body swells...

    Odyssea 48' HQI 250watt

Anyone have one of these and how is it holding up? I am looking at the new model with electronic ballasts. Dont want to try to save a few bucks if they are junk and crap out in short order.

    sulphur denitrators

If you want to set up a sulphur denitrifier, just buy a unit and save alot of headache trying to make or modify something to work. I have been running a Midwest Aquatic sulphur denitrifier for over 4 years with great luck. As stated early in this post, they are for reducing nitrate only. So...

    biodenitrator

I use a midwest aquatics sulphur model. It has worked great for me. They are basically the same units, Midwest is made here in USA and has info on thier website.

Rubbermaid 18 gallon for mixing saltwater?

It is LDPE 4 listed on the bottom. So is it okay to use?

Rubbermaid 18 gallon for mixing saltwater?

After reading the thread with the horse trough problem, I was wondering if all plastic (new) will release bad chemicals. I have been buying saltwater at LFS, and just decided to start mixing my own. I bought an 18 gallon rubbermaid rectangle tub (tan in color) to mix in. I have an RO/DI unit and...

    Something's bothering my RBTA.

Did you change the flow in your tank? It could have been done by moving or adding a powerhead, changing rockwork or adding a coral to modify the flow in some way. If the flow changed on your RBTA it could have bothered it or upset it and caused it to move.

low Mag how to raise alot....

Really????... I rest my case! And Surf Buddy, did you really mean Seachem Advantage Calcium? Any Seachem labeled "builder" product I know of is for Alk supplementing. Again, so little chemical compounds and soooooooo many fancy ways to name it for the industry!

low Mag how to raise alot....

Not a problem, just did not want anyone to read the post and dump Reef Builder in quantity to try to raise Ca. Many years ago a LFS employee I asked seeking knowledge....(well that statement could be a whole new post!) explained and sold me a Buffer for Alk increase and a Builder for Ca...

low Mag how to raise alot....

Seachem Reef Builder is for raising Alk and not for Calcium. Also Kalk will benefit and maintain Ca levels but will not really "boost" your level much at all. To do that you should use a Calcium Chloride product to really raise your levels. Also make note it takes alot of Mag supplement to raise...

    purigen and chemi pure

Purigen, Chemipure and Carbon all do basically the same thing. They remove toxins and polish the water. I have used all three independent and in combinations. Not really any difference in water quality or coral reaction in all uses. So due to bottom line cost for the same effect, I run a quality...

best way to figure out usage of calc/alk?

Dont forget as your corals grow, so will the demand and usage of Ca/Alk. So to figure daily dosing will only be at that level for a short while. Also CA or Alk out of a set balance will affect the other, so in a nutshell...test and dose according to the test results. Overall you will get a feel...
