    Never seen hail like this

I just noticed that all of my goldfish in my pond croaked so I had to drain the pond and clean it out. It must have been from all the ice in the pond. The surface was covered in large hailstones and it must have chilled the water instantly. Better them than me

    Never seen hail like this

My solar panel. Only one is smashed. Not too bad but they are $500.00

    Never seen hail like this

I was more worried about my solar panels on my roof. When the rain stops I will go up there to check it out. I am sure plenty of car windows broke as I can't get GEICO on the phone and trees are down all over the place. It was about 93 degrees here today and the grass is all covered in ice balls.

    Never seen hail like this

I have been living in Long Island NY alll my civilian life and we just got a hail storm with rain like I have never seen here before. The hailstones were almost as large as baseballs and they even broke the rear window on my car and made some dents. Really wierd. :suspicious::doh:

    Other uses for LEDs

After I installed LEDs on my tank I looked for other uses for these great, energy saving devices. I have been using them for various indication lights since they were invented but now they make them much more powerful and you can use them for general lighting. I am sure that in a few years...

Poll: How Long Have You Been "Reefing?"

Mojoreef, I think it was the paleazoic but I didn't want to bring up the coelacanth's, they are hard to wean off of brine shrimp. In the 70s I was running around in the jungle. But I did see some red tail sharks so that counts as fish watching.

Poll: How Long Have You Been "Reefing?"

Freshwater since 1955 or so, saltwater since 1971. Reef tank is still running from then.

    Tank turned 41 years old

I really need to do some massive re construction of this tank as the rocks are not where they are supposed to do. It is a huge job and it will take an entire day. I need to remove all the rocks and corals, after I find a place to put them, then the fish. I will then stir up everything and suck...

New to the forums looking for a little advice

Welcome, as you discovered you will get a lot of opinions all right and all wrong. It is mostly a matter of preference as there is no one way to do this. I personally would buy mostly dry rock that looks nice and add some live rock. In a couple of months you will not tell which is which and...

    DIY chiller

The fan is way too small for this and is a computer fan I had from something else. I don't need more cooling but it would work much better with a larger fan, a fan that almost pulls the water off the plates would be the most efficient and cause the most evaporation. This process works by...

    DIY chiller

80 degrees is much cooler than this tank has even run in the summer. It is 80 degrees in the room the tank is in but the tank usually ran in the high 80s, almost 90 with the MH lights. I don't need a chiller, this is just a test of the device.

    DIY chiller

Before I switched to LEDs I used to have to put in frozen gallons of ice, I no longer need to do that. I don't need a chiller either, this is just an experiment. The tank was 82 degrees yesterday, now it is 80 degrees, so the chiller cooled it down by 2 degrees which is better than I thought...

    DIY chiller

Yes thats a fan. I am not sure if it will make any difference either but like everything else, it is a test. The water drops 1/2 a degree as it exits the device. Here it is over the worm tank

    DIY chiller

I really built this evaporative chiller for my blackworm tank but here in NY it is almost 100 degrees now so I transfered it to my reef for a while. It chilled my worm tank down to 65 degrees but that is only about one gallon. I will see how much it chills my 100 gallon reef. If it works I...

    Teeth or no teeth???

The teeth block some of the waxy substances that would normally flow over the top so I use a slot. Mine has about a 1/4 inch horizontal slot that is at the water surface. I have never lost a fish or snail in it and it provides a large area for the surface of the water to flow un obstructed...

    Tank turned 41 years old

I was concerned that my algae trough would not grow any algae with the new LEDs I installed over the trough but although it took a while, the trough is stocked full of hair and turf algae with none at all in my main tank. So the thing is working fine. I did have to install supplimental LEDs...

Just want to whine a bit, lol

Mike, what are you, a Sissy? Just think, if you did that in my tank you would get rusty splinters, broken glass and shards of aluminum and asphalt in your hands. :loco:
