Anybody got sps under t-8 or 5's?

I got my new 75 set up and am now rethinking my lighting. My 46 had 2@150 hqi's and even a 400 se at one point......Trying to avoid heating the house with the new system! I'm keeping some monti cap, purple digi and a crocia clam under 4 over driven 6500k t-8's 2" off the water at the moment...

    Metal Halide bulbs from Lowes?

I did some research on these bulbs, they are only 4500k. Bad for coral good for nuisance algae, need to hit at lease 6500k for corals

    Anthony, bta help needed

Pulled it last night and put it into QT. It will have carbon 24-7 as well as 6500k lights. Yes indeed it was a mad stressfull move and I was on pins and needles for most of the night but as much as I would hate to loose my BTA I would hate even more to come home and wish I had moved it before it...

    Anthony, bta help needed

Yes, typo. 6 drops= 3 meq. Ph 8.1-8.2 at night 8.3-8.4 during the day. Never handled him, just reoriented the rock last weekend, been in the same place and orientation for over a year. In Febuary needed more flow so I bumped from a mag 12 to mag 18 on closed loop. Had a sand storm (mild but...

    Anthony, bta help needed

Hey Anthony, I've been running a thread on Reef Central with no conclusion. Heres the problem, 3/4 of my BTA's mouth is extremely swollen. Too the point it has a hard time eating. I've had it for over a year as well as a cyano problem, about a month and a half ago I added a larger skimmer as...

    Halide ballast question

A few questions. I scavenged a ballast from a parking lot fixture, 400 watt halide or murcury vapor. On the data plate it states: Lamp watts max 400 Line volts 120/ 208/ 240/ 277v max amps 4.2/ 2.5/ 2.1/ 1.8 lamp MH/ MER; M59/ H33 My question is, can...

    Chemistry help needed

the porwehead is a Maxi 1200. Quite powerfull indeed. I cut the flow down using 1/2" pvc with each both new openings being 3/8", that tamed it a little. I tested Phosphates today and they are unmeasurable on my test kit (aquarium Pharmaceuticals) I did find my source I believe, they measured 2.0...

    Chemistry help needed

How do I remove silicates? Kents phosphate sponge claimes to pull them out but I'm getting mixed reviews so I stopped using it. New air pump is for the skimmer, it's a counter current type. It has helped a little as tonight i pilled about 1/8 cup of green liquid out ( the most I've pulled so...

    Chemistry help needed

Nothing in the sump at the moment. It is actually a wet dry filter with intergrated twin counter current skimmers. I tossed the boi balls and will be adding live rock as soon as my buddy finishes dismantling his system. I have noticed the more light I give the more diatoms are produced, now...

    Chemistry help needed

Unfortunately until about a week ago I have been using tap. I have switched to RO/DI. Since I have switched I may have new algae growing, mixed with the diatom either it is turning lime green or I have new algae? As for the PH, I checked last night about an hour after lights out and it was off...

    Stopping the Sump/Refugium from Overflowing

Same here. I drilled a 1/8 inch hole in mine about an inch below my level sensor (yes it's in the tank and not the sump.. Touche to the broken overflow siphon!) and it's worked flawless since.
