doing a closed loop on a 240 gal.

Hey Danny, Mike's website is http://mojoreefs.homestead.com/files/280_001.htm . If you click on his name you will see a link to his website. Your touching a few different issues so I'm going to let Mike answer your last post. But one of the reasons you want flow near the bottom is to remove...

doing a closed loop on a 240 gal.

Danny, One other thing, because your going thru the side you could really get some good current alternating from left to right. Are you doing sand? Even if you are you could even make a fake sandbed and not worry about the flow turning it up. But Mike is right, you will probably want a lot...

doing a closed loop on a 240 gal.

Nah Mike, I think hes replying to my question about the left side of the tank. It looks like he will have both front and back showing. Danny, The 23" on the overflow is sweet. I wouldn't draw the water off from the overflow itself but I would plumb thru it. I would drill holes for the drain...

doing a closed loop on a 240 gal.

Danny, How big (dimensions) are your overflows? And is the paneling to the left of the tank going to be closed up. It looks like at the left end of tank the paneling is somewhat open. Is there a wall there or can you walk around the tank there? Paul

doing a closed loop on a 240 gal.

Danny, For the drains going to the DP 2700 you will need bigger holes than 1in even though you have two. You really don't want to restrict this pump. You can drill two 1.25in and that would be fine but I would just drill two 1.5in holes. I have the same pump and thats what I will be doing...

doing a closed loop on a 240 gal.

    Probe location

Mike asking a question...thats funny. In the tank...but since most people don't like the look, how about in your weir? The water in the weir just came out of the tank...not sure how your lights are placed and if it will affect your temp probe. I just think it would be better to monitor your...

    Closed Loop Help

You could drill the bulkhead and put a 90 pointing down. You would see it in the tank but probably no more than going over the top. But if you are fearless you might do this, http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=361799. It should work and you will be able to do the hole as...

So I have this live rock with Green Hair Algae on it

Hey wrassehole, Nope, it will probably kill everything but I'd rather get rid of all algae. Plus since I was taking my tank down anyway I won't have to worry about how to keep the rock alive. But once it goes into the new tank it should eventually grow coraline again and come back to "life"...

    Fake sandbeds (Paint)

Don, thats what I was thinking of doing before myself. Mike, thats a great idea. I think I might try that in a few weeks. But I was thinking of cutting smaller strips and pieces disbursing them over the bottom layer, not sure if this is what you were saying. I was only planning on buying a...

    Magnet cleaners and Corraline

Hey jlehigh, When I was reading on www.oregonreef.com I noticed that he used a kent scraper very carefully and a magnavore 10 cleaning magnet. But he also suggested moving your light so that your front panel would be in the shade. Less light = less algae, sounds like a great idea. But I do...

    Rock structured filtration for back

There was an awesome thread on reefcentral.com with a few people who did it very very well, it looked great. I wish I had bookmarked it, I thought I did, it was were i got those links I gave you before. I was going to do a search for it earlier but the search was disabled for me. Paul

So I have this live rock with Green Hair Algae on it

So, I've got this live rock (55lbs) covered with green hair algae. Since I'm switching tanks, I was wondering what you guys thought I could do to completely rid the rock of it. I'm mean I want to get drastic with this because I really would hate to have an algae outbreak in my new tank. I...

    Rock structured filtration for back

They do this a lot in cichlid tanks. I don't have a specific thread on here but you can check out Cichlid-forum.com. You could also look at http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-08/nftt/index.htm although I don't think his came out that great. Or...

    Fake sandbeds (Paint)

Hey, Some people are using a "faux" substrate. You can do a search on faux on reefcentral to find out more about it. This i what I'm thinking about doing on my new tank. You use starboard (not acrylic because starboard is stiffer) for it and you glue on your sand. The only problem is that...

    My 160G Bowfront Tank Design

One thing I should add is that it will be made out of 1/2in acrylic. Do you guys think it should be thicker? Paul

    My 160G Bowfront Tank Design

Hi everyone, These are the tank designs for my 160G bowfront tank that Innovative Aquarium Products will start making in around a week. It went through several different design phases but I think it has reached the point where I will be completely satisfied. The substrate will be faux, sand...
