How many prop tanks out there?

Katrina I'd like to get some zoos from you I missed at meeting. Dumb name tags. I'd take about anything. Mine all have very few polyps.

How many prop tanks out there?

I started thinking beginner stuff like leathers and zoo's. I love lps but they don't grow fast enough. My bedroom tank will be all lps. And will produce occasional frag. I am rethinking maybe all varieties of zoos I can find, leathers, gsp and maybe some sps. I've spent so much on my tank My...

How many prop tanks out there?

I'm curious how many people have prop tanks. It'd be cool to know purpose, goals, results, biggest mistake or tricks. Seems like this is good topic for Anthony's board. I am in planning stages and looking for advice. Thanks Andy

    Protien Skimmer

I have euro ES5-2 on 30g with 20g sump and it does the job. It pulls out much smellier skimate than my old aqua c remora. Not that much price difference if you already have sump. I bought mine online for 199+ shipping.

Is there a benefit by going Natural?

I thought of better way to explain. I have had Remora skimmer and the algae stopped the skimmer almost completly. I bought ES-3 Euro and it shuts off the algae. I did fine with the Remora producing nothing. I didn't like the refugium going downhill so I shut the skimmer off often.

Is there a benefit by going Natural?

I agree. I wouldn't consider my tank low tech. I don't use skimmer that much and have it at lowest setting so it pulls almost black skimate. Plus my tank is in bedroom so noise is factor in shutting off skimmer. Without sump and strong return pump I think you are asking for problems. I have...

Is there a benefit by going Natural?

I like the diversity of critters it adds to main tank. It is gravity fed. As I understand when these spawn that feeds coral. Plus my clown gets fed. I like to watch that tank a lot, the shrimp chasing pods etc.lots of action. The skimmer was very efficient. Pulled out the most skimate of...

Is there a benefit by going Natural?

If you have good growth in refugium that is filtration. My tank is a 30g cube 20g sump 10g overhead fuge filled with chaeto. I prune chaeto every two weeks. I don't like sps much have birdsnest and a monti. I have thirty corals lots of lps, very active sandbed and lots of life in refugium...

    Dead Rock to live rock?

I agree dead base rock will colonize bacteria and look good after a while. My concern would be if you use too small percentage of live rock you won't get the diversity of critters, sponges, worms etc. If I was doing large tank I'd use a mix too.

wouldnt a true refugium have to be above the tank??

I have 10g refuge slightly above my tank and love it. It's filled with chaeto. I feed DT to refuge and the amount of pods, shrimp etc. is incredible. Putting it above the tank lets you watch the critters fight and chase each other. I watch it a lot.
