    Return Pump Flow

Are you going internal or external? For a tank that size I would consider 4x turn over rate of 880 gph. I do agree with Rob's assessment of getting the skimmer raw intake to be as close as possible with the return water rate for better contact time, but those numbers don't work for your system...

Great pictures! That bottom one would be great for the data base. You should share that with Leslie.

    Todd's 125g Build ( Part 1 = Cherry Stand )

Good stuff. I also used this finish to coat the pvc piping on my build to protect the paint I colored it with. Stuff is great.

    My new pico tank

LOL! That line cracked me up. I remember the first time I grabbed onto a BW and it pulled out of my fingers. Surprising how strong they are when your not expecting it. Nice goby!

    Still have algae with NO3PO4X

Hey Hythe, Can you tell us a bit more about the system? What is your freshwater source? Top off and water for mixing salt? Most reef tanks that I encounter with algae issues are due to lack of husbandry as Boomer was getting at. And most are overly stocked with fish. The nitrifying bacteria...

    PEP-ICH

That stinks Pep. :( Now that you know that you have MI you should really consider pulling all the fish and quarantine them. Allowing the reef to go fallow to allow the MI cycle to die off. Sorry for the bad news but if you saw MI on on fish then you have it throughout the system. You will never...

Using Carbon in a Mesh Bag, Helpful?

That makes complete sense now pertaining to the hardness of the GAC being used. I never thought about it before. I can also see softer GAC compressing from breaking up into a powder from the force of the reactor. I also noticed the zeoheads not following the passive idea as originally...

Using Carbon in a Mesh Bag, Helpful?

Thanks for being a bit more gentile boomer :D Sorry to take so long to reply. RS got hosed from a hacker and I needed some time to think on what your talking about. As usual your post makes sense to me and I see where your getting at. I thought from past discussions with you that you liked the...

There's a Tear in My Beer!!

Glass is the way to go for me also. The FDA recommends we cut back on plastics anyhow~ LOL! #4 is good for projects that have perfect seems. So perfect that I found the best results are when you joint the seems through a jointer to get them right. Even a bit of sanding after to remove the...

There's a Tear in My Beer!!

Hey Pep! Have you tried weldon #40 yet? I like this stuff so much I don't think I will build another acrylic tank without it. So much better then #4.

    Problem with Cardinal Fish

LOL Darth ;) It sounds more like you have a stow away in your aquarium that you are not aware of. After many years of being in the hobby I have yet to see cleaner shrimp do more then kill off other shrimp species. And that is rare. Try doing some night hunting with a red led flashlight. While...

    Plumbing issue

Sounds like you have it setup right pitkat. The water in the wier will be changed out constantly from water entering it. so no worries there. You may see small feather dusters and algae build up in there over time. As long as your water parameters are checking in ok then I would not worry about...

Using Carbon in a Mesh Bag, Helpful?

I totally disagree that carbon "reactors" are better then a mesh bag. Water is moving through that thing so fast the carbon has very little contact time. Also reactors cause channeling from biofilms making even less contact time with each grain of carbon. IMO the mesh bag is the way to go for...

    Testing and Testing Equipment

It was really Lorrie (Ipisces) that wrote this article. Great work Lorrie!! Wow! I was supposed to help her and had to bail out because of my busy schedule. So Mike teamed up with her, but lets be fair and acknowledge her first article, as perfect! :) This will help many aquarists for future...

    PVC Frame's

Fully agree with you Krish on the holes and detritus. Better to fill the pvc. Personally I would use something like Acetal Rod. With a little heat you can bend this stuff into any shape you want. Like PVC you will want to wait for it to cool before letting the shape go or it will just go back...
