There is a new build going DDOOOOWWWNNNNNNN.

So why is this in the water fountain??? This is very relevant to the hobby Peppie! Want me to move it to the DIY forum for you or somewhere else?? Let me know. Definately very relevant and not off topic. :)

Maybe it was in the water fountain because it looked like a water fountain when the seam blew?

LOL The tank didnt blow. I noticed the bad seam and measured how long the discoloration was. Measured the same spot 24 hrs later and it grew 1/2''. By the end of the day I had that tank empty and all the livestock in a 40br. (Thanks Eric)

My new tank has been up and running for 3 mos. "Peppies 4th Build" in the membership showcase fourm.

Hey Pep!

Have you tried weldon #40 yet? I like this stuff so much I don't think I will build another acrylic tank without it. So much better then #4.

If I ever build another large (90gal or bigger) with acrylic I will be buying #40. My next tank build will be 1/2'' glass

Glass is the way to go for me also. The FDA recommends we cut back on plastics anyhow~ LOL!

#4 is good for projects that have perfect seems. So perfect that I found the best results are when you joint the seems through a jointer to get them right. Even a bit of sanding after to remove the chatter is necessary.

#16 is good for those less then perfect seems. It fills the voids up to a 16th on miss milling. Has the same strength as #4. It is also easier to work with because of the slower evaporation. Great for building most reactors and projects in our hobby.

#40 is my favorite. This stuff acts like a weld. If used properly you can make seems invisible. It melts the two items together making it almost impossible to see to the untrained eye.

#40 is a bit harder to work with though. You need to mix it accurately for the best results. It can be a bit messy at first also. I bought a bag full of large syringes and found that it works well for application of the two part mixture. You can save the syringes also for a few times usage if you clean it out with acetone immediately. I just toss them when I am doings a large project and don't have time to clean it.

For glass I use to use CR Lawrence. Bu they changed there aquarium safe silicones chemistry and the stuff has zero shelf life now. So I switched back to GE Type I for all glass projects. Works great (Thanks for the heads up DonW) and has a good wet time.

Hope that helps some!

Frank

Thanks Frank,
The glass build will not be for some time yet. I need to save some money, and convince the boss that I will sell it once it is done.
