    Freeking Awesome Story

That's awesome! I can't wait to see the pics. Hitchhikers can be an enjoyable part of tank watching....especially when the lights go out.

    Clams

I agree, as long as you have sufficient lighting, your clam should be fine withouth supplemental feeding. Make sure to watch your calcium and alkalinity, if you don't already.

    What are these little guys??

OK - I'm still not convinced that isn't a vermatid snail. Are you saying that dark red part pulls in? If so, then I'm not sure, and would need a closer pic of just that part. The green stuff growing on the right side of that same rock looks like Caulerpa sertularioides to me, which would make...

Had to break the Rules for this one!

Happy Happy Birthday!!! Let's hope the house doesn't burn down at candle time! ;) :D

how do i get rid of those tiny starfish?

Are you talking about the asterina stars? It can be a daunting task if you don't want to use harlequin shrimp. Unless they are causing problems, I'd just leave them alone, but that's my opinion.

No, we didn't lose power. Thank goodness! I was driving home and a lot of the street lights were out. Of course the youngin' was freaking out at all the wind! I saw some guy driving a scooter in that! I felt really bad for him.

    What are these little guys??

Hmmm - Does the red thing move around? Is it doing anything? Here is a video of a vermetid snail eating. See if what you see extending from the tube you are asking about looks similar to the vermetid snail feeding in the video: Feeding Behavior of a Vermetid Gastropod Also, this article...

    What are these little guys??

Curt - where do you see the caulerpa? I thought it looked more like a peanut worm stretched out. Unless we are looking at two different things....

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

I can assure you that was directed at myself (apologies for the miscommunication). I often like to play devil's advocate to discuss topics further. It is probably the reason I had a history teacher in high school encourage me to become an attorney. He said I always like to argue and debate...

Bi-colour blennies breeding, need some help please

zgenius - the only information I can give you is from the breeders forum I previously linked to. I'm not sure how the folks trying to rear blennies go about it. Again, this thread can be found from the link (to give credit): Escenius midas breeding, and is in reference to midas blenny...

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

Ummm.... sandollar - I was calling myself the devil's advocate, not you. I was playing devil's advocate. I was trying to look at it from the other side. I'm a big skimmer kind of girl, but I'm trying to spark some good ole discussion :)

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

Playing devil's advocate, what difference does it make if someone decides to set-up their tank this way? Like I said, I certainly wouldn't choose to do it, but there are positives and negatives, and as long as you understand the limitations, there is nothing wrong with using one. Good old...

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

Actually, IMO, a refugium is different from an algae scrubber. A refugium is a "refuge", where this algae scrubber is merely a scrubber. People just happen to grow algae in a refugium, but you don't have to. It can be a simple live rock rubble area where pods propagate without predation. My...

Really dumb question, but does it fire up fine when it is plugged into a regular wall outlet?

    What are these little guys??

I think in the second picture, what looks like an arm is actually a peanut worm. It looks too smooth to be the arm of a star (at least my weary eyes see it that way). I also noticed a vermetid snail in the second picture. The red tube looking thing on the top of the rock (about 10 o'clock in...
