So, since I had my ich outbreak, I'm getting serious with QT. I'm going to be setting up two 15g tanks side by side to accommodate my 4x65w duel 48" Current light that I already have. One of the tanks is going to be a QT for fish, which should be able to hold a fish roughly 2" - 3". The other 15g tank is going to be a frag/QT tank for corals. This tank will have my old Aqua-C Remora Pro skimmer on it with an egg crate/pvc stand for the corals. I will put a couple Hydro-K nano power heads for circulation.

Does this sound like it will work out fine? or any suggestions?
Thanks,

im building my quaratine/frag tank too. getting supplies for it. im contemplating bare bottom or crushed coral for the bottom on the frag tank. which way you going?

I'm going bare bottom on both. I want to keep as much detritus off the bottom as I can. Are you just doing one tank or two?

i dont know yet. probably two. i have a 29 gallon and a 20 gallon. might make the 20 gallon a sump. the problem is lets say i get corals and then i get fish. i cant really quarantine either one when both are present both need special treatment either it be flatworms or redbugs and the fish might need copper. the other thing is more money to support electricity wise on the setups.
come to think about it, probably do the 29 as a display and 20 a sump. if i do get fish, i can use a 5 gallon bucket to quaratine, i have some flourescents i can put on top of the 5gallon bucket.

gonna try barebottom too. the eggcrate and pvc sounds good. for filtration i have an octo skimmer i got from ocdreefer and im picking up a algae scrubber from josh. still sketching out some ideas on the sump. lighting will be hqi 250watt supplemented by powercompacts. hopefully a can gets some frags started and stick them everywhere in my display tank and hopefully trade with everybody here.
now that im thinking, if i get some corals from other reefers, how am i gonna incorporate that with my frag tank,,,,any ideas?

I wouldn't use a 5g bucket for a fish QT. Just think, if you did, you would be limited to a 1in fish. On top of that, it would be hard to observe the fish through sold plastic to see if they have any other parasites. Also, fish like length, and buckets are tall.

As far as your frag tank goes, I'm using mine strictly for QTing new corals, as well as a place to frags from my tank and others. My corals will be QT for 6-8 weeks prior to entering my tank. One other thought to consider is what are you going to do about heat from the hqi 250w?

You definitely need 2 separate tanks, one for corals and one for fish.

your right on the 5 gallon bucket. when the time arises when i purchase fish, i'll just pick up an 10gallon somewhere.
on your frag tank, lets say you have existing corals in there, and you purchased new corals from a fellow reefer, are you moving the existing to your display while you treat the new, then after the treatment move the frags from your display tank back to the frag tank?

I guess it all depends on what I'm treating for. If it's for something major then yes I will, but for the most part, the QT to me insures that I'm not bringing ich into my tank. If you treat it properly though, any coral should be able to handle the treatment if they are healthy..

heat off the 250hqi are gonna be controlled by a aquacontroller2 by some fans. im also gonna hook up a bathroom fan in my garage to handle humidity. but for the winter i need to insulate the garage or by a bigger heater

as far as treatment , true they should handle the quaratine procedure but theres a chance the bugs could jump over to the frags and ive noticed every treatment corals lose there colors.
i have a 3 gallon glass maybe where i can put new frags in and incorporate it to the frag system somehow. use like airline tubing for input and output and 2 aqualifters perhaps
