    check out this video!

LOL They really are not good purchases for most hobbyists. They require a VERY deep sand bed and they require a VERY high amount of food.

    check out this video!

That's a sea pansy/sea pen and not an anemone. Still cool though.

    Non-Photosynthetic Softies

awesome post!!! Mike, very few corals ingest phytoplankton. However, many of the non-photosynthetics do.

    Phosphate remover/need help asap

Kent is probably the worst of the phosphate medias to use in a fluidized bed filter. They purposely crack the resin beads so when put into a reactor, the cracked rough surface area grinds against other beads. The second reason this would be the worst of the medias to use in this application is...

    Any St. Louis area reefers?

Maxx, Reefergeorge, Me, MSS, Spooda420, Logiktest, (can't remember Bob's user name ATM), plus there's several others. I prefer Planet Reef and Clayton Pet Emporium Beldts recently spent a whole lot of money on upgrades but the last time I was there, the new tanks were dirty and they were...

    Button polyps in sump ?

Only a test would tell you for sure. However, it's probably not a good idea as my hypothesis. Photosynthesis is a two-part process. Different things happen in the dark then happen in the light. With that said, buttons don't really have a lot of zooxanthellae as they mostly feed off DOM.

    Button polyps in sump ?

Are you sure it's a button polyp and not an aiptasia?

    The Sterile Tank method!

Yes, I have had a lot of my rock for a long time. I dry it out, clean it, and re-use it.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. :(

    The Sterile Tank method!

No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that different types of CaCO3 are more and less reactive to phosphate depending on circumstances. LR is nothing but old coral skeletons....it's just much older coral skeletons.

    The Sterile Tank method!

Well, of course they are all CaCO3. But this is not true at all. Calcite, Aragonite, and Dolomite might all be CaCO3 the the amount of Calcium-phosphate they contain can vary widely. Heck, the shell will have more P than the others but because it's smooth, algal spores and detritus don't get...

    The Sterile Tank method!

I personally like doing tanks this way. When Live Rock (LR) was introduced to the hobby, the "live" part of "live rock" meant that it housed bacteria.....nothing more. Then Walter Adey and Karen Loveland got people thinking that you could actually build an entire ecosystem in your tank...

    phosphate removal from rocks

LOL However, my rock has been dried out, cleaned, and re-seeded many times before. I had MTS (Multiple Tank Syndrome).

    phosphate removal from rocks

muriatic acid in RO/DI water works wonders. The downside of this method is you will have a little less rock than you started with too.
