    Unknown crab. pest or not

Crabs in general are pretty mean, in my opinion. In the past, mine killed off most of my snails (despite having plenty of extra shells in their tank) and would pick at coral. They are meat eaters, after all. I keep very few in my tank (2 at the moment, both very small), because snails and...

    stowaway

Hehehe, you CAN eradicate it if you want. I actually had two in a tank once a while back, and I left them because I thought they were pretty. Got a lot of people point them out and tell me they were cool, too! But if you have a lot of coral, or plan to, it's a good idea to get rid of them...

    3 week update

Btw, just wanted to let you know that hitchhiker snail *is* a stomatella :) I have about 3 in my tanks, one of them had coraline algae completely over its shell! Pretty nifty little guys, and GREAT additions to the cleaner crew. The tank looks great!!

    stowaway

There are many, many different types of majano anemones, some with bulbous tentacles, some with pointy, some even with green tentacles and a brown disk. If you DO have majano, it would be a good idea to try to eradicate them from your tank. They can sting (though not as powerful as aiptasia)...

    Found a sea star??

Btw, in the background of that pic, it looks like you have either a majano anemone or aiptasia...Those are NOT the best to have in the tank. Aiptasia especially.

    Found a sea star??

Agreed with TJL. Micro brittles are AWESOME! I know a lot of people who try to get them into their tanks because they do such a great job in helping keep the tank clean. I have about 4 in my little 2 gallon tank :)

Pics of NW Fish Dude's Tank

That's because the tank IS pretty damn nice! :D Glad you like them! I take the pics with a Canon digital EOS camera, and play with light balance in photoshop. The popped colors are really from the lighting Robert has on his tank.

So the pics are showing up for me right now. I had originally uploaded them directly from my computer. I have to wonder if it takes the images away when I am off line? Is that related? I'm a bit of a tech-tard, so bear with me.

PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) is the number of light quanta that fall in a square meter over the course of one second, that are in between the wavelengths of ~400nm-600nm.

    I need an I.D. please

+1 on purple star polyps, I have some in one of my tanks, too. The spread quite well, too, so I'd keep that in mind when you are placing/gluing more coral in your tank. A lot of people put their star polyps on a "island" by itself so it doesn't spread and take over other rock and coral :D
