    Substrate...Which is most popular???

gday krish, here in australia one of the most popular substrates used would have to be crushed marble. quite cheap, pure white in colour and comes in different sizes. damien

    Acropora sp. Bleaching event

curvball, the browning of sps corals can be a result of many things, one is not enough light. if you collected the corals from the tide pool which would have been subjected to lots of light, and then put them under 4 NO tubes, i am reasonably confident that they are definately going to turn...

gday primalscream, have a look at aaron's tank. the photo doesnt really do them justice, but he has some sensational clams. his avatar shows two of them. damien

Help! How do I get rid of these nasties?

persistance is the key to getting rid of them. you can try getting a 1ml syringe mixing up a solution of 50%water and vinegar and inject each one with about .1 to .2 of a ml. dont do the entire tank in one go as the dying tissue will increase ammonia. damien.

    tank again

i would put another powerhead in there. how are the flatworms going? i doubt if you will be able to get rid of everysingle one of them manually.

    tank again

sorry to hear about the mandarin, goes to show that you should really research everything you are thinking of buying. can you find out exactly how much flow you have. do you have powerheads in the tank? another good book is Natural Reef Aquariums by John Tullock damien

    tank again

nikki, not wanting to get off topic too much, but this has to be one of the topics of debate all over the world. the advice i give to people is what works for me and others who i know. it is then up to that person to either take the advice on board or disregard it. everyone has "golden rules"...

    tank again

gday spongebob, DSB= deep sand bed. this is what a lot of people have at the bottom of their tanks. when the sand/crushed marble/ crushed coral etc get to be around 10cm deep, you will get a hypoxic layer of sand at the bottom. the bacteria here are anaerobic and will convert nitrate to...

    tank

wow, sorry mate, not good!!! i dint think you are going to have much luck at manually getting rid of all those flat worms. could be cyanobacteria. how big is the tank. how much circulation do you have. what are you test kit results. how often do you feed "the good stuff". how often do you...

    what is this?

as my earlier post says, mandarin's (dragonette, not a goby) do eat flatworms, but can be a bit hit and miss. also can be hard to keep if you dont have a lot of natural food, being amphipods/copepods. these fish go from rock to rock looking for food. unless you have LOTS of rock and maybe a...

    bio-load and yellow eyed tang

tory, i think your tank is going to struggle long term to keep the 2 tangs going. sorry but it is far to small for two tangs. the reason for this is that they are generally herbivoreous grazers, they eat all day long, picking at algae. they need a lot of food because they basically dont stop...

    what is this?

they are flat worms (not planaria as they are freshwater). these dont really cause any problems, they just look bad. these reproduce by fission and are photosynthetic. theyre are afew natural predators, one of the best is a mandarin, but i wouldnt reccomend one for a tank under at least 400...

    Problem with red slime algae

spongebob, are they flat? there is a species of flat worm that is red. these can reach plague like proportions in the tank as they reproduce very quickly. can you get a picture? there is a chemical which i know a few people have used here, works well with very little harm to the tank. you...

    Problem with red slime algae

gday rick, you also seem to have a lot of fish in that system, how many do you have? i know the temptation to load up a tank with fish is hard to resist, but realistically the tanks cant cope with large bioloads, i think this may also be a reason why you have cyano. dont stress to much, as it...
