I want to add one more tang to my tank to go with my yellow tang

Well I set up my 170 and all four (yellow, purple, cole and powder blue) swim in a pack along with the foxface, I was very pleased and surprised. Andy

I want to add one more tang to my tank to go with my yellow tang

I think the main thing is to get tangs with different boby sizes. Ones that don't look like one another. Like a yellow and a cole. That is why I am afraid of my yellow and purple fighting. Plus the cole and tang eat different things, the yellow has pointed mouth and picks at things, the cole...

I want to add one more tang to my tank to go with my yellow tang

I think a cole would be ok I have a yellow and a cole in a 4 ft 60g rubbermaid. They turned into buddies. I think the cole is the best choice for a smaller tank. I am soon to switch everything into a 170. I'll have a Cole, a Yellow, a Purple, and a Powder Blue. I'll have tons of rock but I...

    New tank flow question

The tank is 6ft * 2ft wid and 18" at the center, it curves in. Nikki it is Dustin's (playful1) old tank. It is ready for a closed loop and I am plugging the holes. I just don't want all that plumbing, I know that's not the path most would take but I want a simple setup with little plumbing...

    New tank flow question

I am setting up a 170g acrylic tank. I'm keeping softies, mostly zoanthids and some lps. My return pump will be an eheim 1260 on a sea swirl in the center of the tank. I want a deep sand bed without being blown all around. A closed loop is not an option. I don't want external pumps. Cost is...

    xm 15000k vs. 10000k

I like the 15k but I have softies and lps, for sps I think a 15k would give good color but less growth. For viewing and softies I'd say the 15k for sps growth the 10k I think it depends on what direction you tank is heading.

    1st Reef Tank help needed

You could go with less flow from the sump and use the Seio powerheads. If budget is really tight I think that would work fine. I think your skimmer might work better because with less overflow you would be skimming a thinner layer off the top. Andy

    Which submersible pump?

Pumps Yeah I think they are worth the extra cash. an Eheim1262 is pressure rated at 902 gph I think. The mags are flow rated so running through a scwd you will lose a lot more flow with the mag. Also the Eheim are silent and last forever. I lost a small part cleaning it and they sent...

    Which submersible pump?

Yeah I missed the meeting yesterday. It's hard to ever get a Saturday off from work. Glad to see your tank is coming along. Andy

    Eheim is my favorite.

Too many bubbles from skimmer and Noisy water return

Are you using the outlet sponge? My return is close to level with water in sump with a 90 elbow with a few more inches of pipe. Probably not the best but its quiet.

    Red algae around rock basis

Do you use ro/di water? That caused my cyano outbreak. I added refugium and ro/di and that has helped a ton. Check Ca & alk to encourage corraline. My $.02 Andy

    Hail Algae+Valonia

You need to remove all substrate then add sand. The crushed coral has to go.

    Hail Algae+Valonia

Crushed coral is detrius trap. Go bare bottom or 5" of southdown sugar size,(I love my dsb) sand. I bet that's a big part of the problem.

What size is substrate? Crushed coral?

Looking for a clump of Chaeto in Seattle/Eastside area

The top tank is drilled for drain. I think a hob overflow would not work because of slow movement, bubbles in tube, lose syphon. I feed fuge from sump return with ball valve to adjust flow. You could put a maxi-jet in tank and use vinyl tubing to and from fuge. Hardest part was finding...

    Hail Algae+Valonia

I think ro/di is the 1st step. Second good nutrient export via dsb, skimmer, refugium is crucial. Adding macro to refugium will outcompete algae in tank for nutrients. Dripping kalk to encourage corraline growth will also help export phosphates and keep CA & alk in check. As for removal I...

Looking for a clump of Chaeto in Seattle/Eastside area

Do you have refugium plumbed in already? If not it is very easy to make overhead fuge that gravity feeds into main tank. That's the way mine is.
