    Lynnwood library clowns

Just an FYI for anyone in the area, the clowns at the Lynwood library have laid eggs up in the corner of the tank. I don't know if they are going to hatch up there but it is kind of cool because they are right out where you can see them.

How to get rid of unwated Zoas?

I don't know 100% that the were poisoning my other corals but I was having trouble with a hammer and trumpet. As soon as I removed the majority of buttons they starting recovering. They are not that fun to look at and I don't have too many so better safe than sorry.

How to get rid of unwated Zoas?

I was assuming they were Zoanthids. Maybe I am wrong. I have attached a picture.

How to get rid of unwated Zoas?

I have some Zoas that I have been trying to get rid of for while. They have been poisoning some of my other corals. I removed the rock that most of them were on but I still have a few straglers on some bigger rock I can;t get to. I need to get rid of them before they repopulate. I was...

    got gurgling to stop but....

I'm geussing that the gurgling was coming from your stand pipe? If it is built to the right height you should be able to adjust your tube to bring the water level up so there is less waterfall sound. If that doesn't work you might need to rasie the height of the stand pipe. dennis

    Help with Stand Design

That stand looks pretty stout. I would not worry too much about the back of your tank not sitting on the back support. The plywood should be able to easily carry that load. How wide is your tank and how wide is your stand? Skinning the back would deffinately help with the lateral support...

    Help with Stand Design

It depends on how you make your stand, typicaly you need a center brace. You could get away with out one if you made a frame to support tank. Although you would probably need a 4x6 along the front where you have no brace. If you don't like that idea I built a sand for my 90 gal and made one...

    help with halide bulb

14k give you the slight blueish. I have tried a couple of different brands and right now am using generic 14k bulbs from ebay. They are alot cheaper than the name brand and look pretty good but don't generaly last as long. I have been using them to experiment with the different color tempertures.

Recommendations for first fish and others

Some damsels tend to get territorial and agressive. Green Chromis tend to be an exception to that and are good first fish. They are cheap and fairly hardy. If you want to eventualy have a clown you could probaly also get one now if your tank has cycled. dennis

    Sump refugium questions

For a quick Refugium you could put some cheato in one the compartments with a light over it. I use a 125 watt flood light from home depot which grows chaeto very well. It is realy best to have the fug seperate from the sump but it doesn't look like you have too much extra room so I would try...

Would you EVER buy a Fish from PetCo?

QT anything from petco even if it looks healthy. They are kind of a fish chop shop. I did happen to find a small hippo tang there that I have had for 3 years. But in general I don't buy anythign there. dennis

    The BEST store.

I also have been all of the seattle area stores. I really like Reef Mystique in Lake Stevens. If you haven't been there give them a try. Dennis

    ID help please

I found these in my tank last night. The pictures aren't that good so will try to describe them. During the day they look very similar to a richordia. I have around 5 all on one piece of live rock. The biggest is about the size of a dime. They have a central feeding orafice. They are...

    Sick Tang

Tangs are pretty tempermental when it comes to diseases. Sometimes just the stress of moving from the store to your house is enough for them to get sick. It is always a good idea to quarantine them and treat them with copper even if they look healthy. dennis

What? no razor blades on acrylic?

For my coralline I use a plastic ice scraper. I also use a little plastic scaper that came with some of our stone cookingware. I have never had either scratch my tank. dennis

    Xenia not looking so good?

Mine retracts like that from time to time but is always out later that day or the next day. I think my problem is a fish irratating it every so often. Do you have anything bothering it? Dennis

    Trimming Pulsing Xenis (Xenia umbellata)

They don't handle shipping very well. You probaly be better off finding someone local. Also make sure you have some fresh carbon running when you trim them. Dennis
