How many holes should I have drilled?

I have a 210 gallon tank (96'X24"X 21"tall). I had some problems with the center and one end cross brace coming loose. I decided the best thing to do would be to eurobrace the top of the tank. When I took the top trim off, I found that the glass was not even (had a bevel in it). A local glass...

Urgent problem with 210 gallon tank

Thanks folks I'll give it another try. Guess I just didn't do it right the first time.

Urgent problem with 210 gallon tank

There wasn't much of a gap between the two surfaces. I did thoroughly clean the surfaces prior to applying the Silicone, and did not clamp the braces completely squeezing out all but the thin layer left behind. The supports were glass, and they were put inside the tank. Even if I could fix...

Urgent problem with 210 gallon tank

Earlier this summer I purchased a used 210 gallon tank (96"X24"X21"high) . It was configured as a breeder tank with 3 internal baffles and a 2" bulkhead in the bottom for the drain. I removed the baffles and installed 3 3"X1/2" thick cross supports at the top with GE Silicone I. The tank has...

Drain pipe noise. How can I shut it up.

If your pump is sucking your sump dry then you don't have enough water in the sump and/or your drain isn't able to keep up with your return pump. Your drain must be capable of handling the flow rate of the pump or your tank will overflow. Your sump has to be not only large enough to handle the...

How often do you feed your fish...

I'm with OmarD. It depends on what livestock you have. All herbevores may only need feeding a couple of times a week. Omnivores maybe daily or every other day. Carnivores probably daily and maybe twice daily. If you have a mixture of types, you may want to try target feeding.

24in Tall tank would 2 250w Mogul MH w/Ice Cap Ballasts work for SPS?

If I can piggyback on this thread, I'm thinking of 4 - 250w 14K on my 96"X24"X 21" deep tank with 4 T5 actinic for dawn/dusk. How many hours would you recommend running.

    O.K. I have a yellow Tang

Try clipping some nori and don't feed anything else for a day. My bet is that your tang will find that it's not so bad when he gets hungry.

    Schooling fish

I wouldn't recommend adding any more fish than you already have in a 125 gal. I agree with you on getting rid of the damsels.

    bully domino

Most damsels are nasty and just get more aggressive as they get larger. I'd take him out and leave him out. See if you can trade him for store credit at a LFS.

Drain pipe noise. How can I shut it up.

I have a 2" bulk head in the bottom on my tank with a 2" standpipe coming straight up (no overflow). I used a 2" sanitary elbow and a 2" 90 degree elbow to make the Durso. I capped it with a 2" end cap into which I drilled a 1/4 hole. On the bottom of the bulkhead is a 2" ball valve union, and...

    Tang and Rabbitfish Compatability

It definitely makes sense to add the rabbitfish first. Unfortunately I hadn't originally planned on having both. A longstanding HA problem prompted me to try a rabbitfish. The purple tang just wasn't interested in it, hopefully the rabbitfish will.

    Tang and Rabbitfish Compatability

This past weekend I decided it was time to add another fish to the 110. I purchased a Blue Spotted Rabbitfish as I still have some HA in the tank and they have a reputation for being very good at cleaning this up. The fish looked fine at the LFS (they've had him about 3 weeks and he's eating...

    Fish Suggestions?

Gina, slow down and enjoy the livestock you already have. I know that there are lots of wonderful and colorful animals and that it would be nice to have one of each. Last one I know of who could do it was Noah. You definitely have fish tank fever. Take a brief time out and spend some time...

    Aquacultured vs. Wild Livestock

I try to buy what appears to be the healthiest regardless of origin. I also avoid buying any wild that has little or no chance of surviving and attempt to discourage others as well. I am selective on who I buy from or where I buy livestock. I also research potential new acquisitions before...

    tank background

Backgrounds are more for hiding all the things that come up and enter the tank or hood from view. If you aren't concerned about that (and don't have anything really scary for the fish behind the tank) then I wouldn't worry about. For my tanks though it hides my plumbing and electrical from view...

    Lights for my 90 gal.

If you need, or want, to add actinics, don't waste your money on T5s. Go with VHO T12s. The generic 65w PC actinic on my 29 gallon puts out more blur than several 54w T5 actinics I've tried. If I were doing a 90 gal, I'd go with 2 - 25w 10K MH and 2 - T12 VHO actinics.
