    Display tank water circulation question

In my experience there can be too much flow. If I max out my pumps to about 14,000 gph in my 120, it is too much flow. The fish don't seem to care for it, the sand blows around too much and my corals do not seem to be as happy. My tank seems to do better when I cycle the pumps between 20-60%...

    Bryopsis cures?

I do have an ozone system on my tank, maybe I will raise my ORP to see what effect that has on the byropsis?

    Bryopsis cures?

I have never heard of this treatment. How much hydrogen perioxide do you dose, for how long and under what conditions?? Do you have hard and soft coral and if so, how were they effected?

    The incredable shrinking pulsing xenia

I had some pulsing xenia in my tank for several years and it was thriving. It was almost like a weed. I had to thin in out every month as it was speading like crazy and getting really thick. Then, one year it all starting to slowly shrink. After several months, the xenia looked healthy...

    Fish in sump

They are not the fancy guppies. From my understanding they do not fair too well in saltwater, although I have heard of folks successfully doing it. My guppies are the plain feeder type. I actually did have some black mollys in the sump, but they got sucked into the return pump when I forgot...

    Bryopsis cures?

Well I guess I better get some Tech M on order, thanks for the comments! I will post some before and after pictures when all said and done...

    Fish in sump

I have no prooven benifits, but they seem to keep things a little cleaner without sacroficing anything. Yes, 5 gallon bucket is fine. I acclimated my first two femals and one male over a 4 day period which worked well. I probably could have acclimated them faster, but then I might have killed...

    Fish in sump

I will try and get some pics of this week. I learned from Jonathan Rowe that you can easily acclimate guppies to saltwater. Jonathan kept a few guppies in his massive overflow.

    Bryopsis cures?

It is my understanding that it is not the high level of Mg that kills the Bryopsis, but some additive that is present in Tech M. My current Mg levels are about 1450 using a two part solution from Bulk Reef Supply. I assume I can just stop dosing my two part, maybe do a water change and start...

    Bryopsis cures?

Does your Bryopsis come back and if so, how long did it take?

    Fish in sump

I have some guppies in my fug, 25 gallon section. I dont ever see the guppies going after the pods in my cheato and they do a good job at keeping things fairly clean. they re-produce all time so they maintain their numbers well. They do not produce a lot of waste and I feed them nothing so...

    Bryopsis cures?

I have some bryopsis that grows on the combs of my overflow in my tank. I have heard that using Kent Tech magnesium at high levels, 1600+ ppm kills the bryopsis. anyone have sucess with this method? Any other methods out there to kill it off or at least keep in well under control?

Algae I think - ID Please

Agree, too hard to ID from the picture. I am sure it looks different in person, but it almost looks like some type of sponge!

    Stubborn Cyano

BTW, flow never seems to impact my cyano. I have also cut out the lights for 5 straight days and covered the tank with black plastic. This worked for about week and the cyano quickly came back once the lights came back on.

    Stubborn Cyano

That is cyano. It sounds like the use of tap water is most likely your problem. If I were you, I would go to RO/DI water and also treat me tank twice with chemi clean. If the cyano was just limited to your sump, then the previous person who said to harvist it isnt a bad idea until you get...

    A friendly hello, I think?

Well I can understand the concern to some degree, but after reading some of the privite messages it seems as if you are guilty until proven inocent here. From the few PSAS meetings I attended over the years, most folks on here seem nice and down to earth. With that said, the new site looks...

    A friendly hello, I think?

Do these spammers just post garbage or do they post with some sort of reef background to make themselves look somewhat credible? Why do these spammers waste their time? Is there some objective they have on this site?

The end of my Nano tank

You need to modify your gavity feed sump. Mine is set up to loose its siphone if the tanks water level goes down an inch or so. Really easy mod to make to your system and will garantee this doesnt happen again.

    A friendly hello, I think?

Well it has been a long time since I have been on reeffrontiers, but so far it hasn't been too friendly. This forum has taken on a competley new look from what it was a few years ago. I started to read some threads that were of interest to me that were posted on the first webpage that was...
