    Calcium and Magnesium, how low is TOO low?

    yes... you should bring Mg and Ca up... if nothing else, you wont see much growth if any at all with the levels that low... what salt are you using?

    sounds like your lfs wants to sell you 2-part :) good thing about the reactor is that you buy it once... refill the media and co2 every so often and you're done... not much there for an lfs to make money on ;)

    i would do pc's or even a 70w mh for a xenia fuge to really push the growth... i hate the old watts/gallon rule but id say 6-8wpg (of fuge volume) as a minimum... you want the xenia to thrive and grow like the weed that it is for it to be a successful scrubbing mechanism... also, red sea pompom...

    kalk paste... same as aptasias... i curse the day i ever put red shrooms into my mixed reef tank, especially now that it is an sps only tank and im still trying to get rid of the red shrooms :mad:

    if you are going to DIY (which usually yields superior results since you can pick all the best stuff) you will need to pick a reflector, bulb, and ballast... there are 3 basic catogories for MH ballasts; electronic, standard magnetic, and HQI magnetic... if you choose to run double ended bulbs...

    for 29" and an sps tank youll definately want a 400 IMO... youll need that to really punch the light to the bottom if you plan to keep sps down there... also, with one bulb over a 36" tank youll want the best reflector you can find to avoid dark corners... i recommend the lumenarc mini... and...
