how old does a chromis have to be before it's considered ancient?

over the past 7 years, we've had about a dozen different fish in our tank. we currently have 5 fish - 4 of them are the very first fish in the tank including a blue-green chromis. we originally bought 7, a few died early on then 3 of them lived on for a couple years. But one chromis is still...

    anchors for frogspawn frags?

Our sand bed isn't really a bed since it's only 1/2" thick, frags fall over. we have a pair of maroon clowns who live in the center of our corner tank with a giant anemone so there's only so much safe areas that frags can go in. i'm using the diamond wheel on a dremel and will definitely have a...

    Marine Fish Food Recipe

I just made a batch last weekend - 4 scallops, 8 large prawns, 1 calamari steak, thawed and rinsed squid, slightly steamed organic broccoli florets, 2 garlic cloves and 6 sheets of nori. I use whatever shellfish is fresh & not farm raised.

    What are these...possible pest?

Last night I noticed brown spots on one of our frogspawns in the white area between the soft tissue & skeleton. Today I sucked some out with a tiny hose and after the soft tissue withdrew, I saw these was also spots on the soft tissue & found one on a striped mushroom that was nearby. They do...

Every worry about temp when acclimating?

I acclimate new fish & corals for 1 to 1 1/2 hours by dripping water in like a good reefer. But I worry about the temperature! You bring a creature home from the store & put it in a bucket so you lose a few degrees there. Then tank water drips in over time, but doesn't the overall temp drop...

Zebra Turbo snails turning upside down

We purchased 6 regular turbo snails and for the first 3 months, we would find one upside down almost every day. We used our long tongs to flip them over. As time went on, they would be on their back in a place we couldn't reach or see & we have 2 turbo snails left. I haven't seen either of them...

    Whats your Favorite Fish kept

My favorite ever was our radiata lionfish - so beautiful and graceful to watch. Out of the fish we have now, the rusty angelfish has personality & beautiful coloring, especially the blue at the end of his tail. He tries to rule the tank but mallory, our gsm clown & sid, a squareback anthias are...

    galaxea ?

I know euphyllia's can touch each other without harm - with the exception of torch corals of course - and experienced this myself when we had 3 frogspawns touching all in a row. What about galaxea? I know they have the long sweeper tentacles & very strong stingers, but will a galaxea harm...

    Display Elegance Frags

I totally agree! We were in the store last Friday and we were mesmerized by the long, graceful tentacles. If we had more flow in our tank & confidence in caring for an elegance, we would have taken one home. We've had a standard neon green elegance for 2 months now & so far so good!

    Tank horror stories

I had turned the filter off but 20 min later, the anemone was still stuck so I cut him out. I hate looking at it, but here's a pic of this tragedy:

    Tank horror stories

We switched over our 100g tank aggressive fish-only to reef. We had 2 aquaclear 110's on the back of the tank. our bta climbed up the back wall overnight and was partially sucked into the filter. I took scissors & cut him out. We didn't have a hospital tank but a LFS put him in theirs. He didn't...

    Oceanic Bucket?

we keep the salinity at 1.026/27 because we have 3 very large shrimps.

    Oceanic Bucket?

i didn't like reef crystals & instant ocean doesn't have enough calcium. if not oceanic, what else to try? definitely want the 5gal bucket - the bags just don't last long enough when you're running at 1.027 salinity.

    Oceanic Bucket?

Can anyone tell me who locally carries the big 5 gallon buckets of Oceanic salt? We've been using reef crystals but want to switch to oceanic.
