Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

Skimmer arrived today! I bought a used Lifereef Protein Skimmer VS3-24 off eBay. The seller did not wrap the skimmer so the entire thing was full of styrofoam peanuts. I thought I was in trouble until I filled it in the sink to see if they would float and sure enough they all floated up to...

    Snail reference chart

Very cool. Is it well known which of the snails do well at cleaning the glass? That is always somthing I am trying to determine when reading about the various types of snails.

Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

Got my LED panels in. These are the ones found at http://www.clearlyleds.com I have 10 panels and am going to mount them in two sets of five to work with my canopy. After playing around with them a bit it looks like using 4 panels worth of blue provides the right amount of moonlight. So I am...

Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

Refugium is up and running. Just sand and LR for now. Need some chaeto. Last night I found a japanese swallowtail angel and a golden sleeper head goby to add with the rest of the fish this weekend (They are on-hold at the LFS for now). I want to add all the fish to the new tank at the...

Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

I have some led panels coming in. I hope they will do the trick. It will end up with 100watts of LEDs plus 160ish watts of t5s. The t5s are in there now and the temp goes up 1-2 degrees during the day. I am hoping a couple of small fans will keep the canopy cool enough to not affect the...

Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

I hear you but the canopy looks good and I am not super handy. I was actually talking about the fuge light in the cabinet.

Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

Well I solved the fuge plumbing with the larger drain and took care of the gurgling by inserting a short piece of air tubing into the drain to let some air in. I am still nervous about the drain clogging and overflowing. Is there a cheap float switch that would turn off the fuge pump if it...

    ICH

Thanks for the extra detail. I certainly don't want to rush things. I know that the 75g has been running at 80-82 so that should certainly be speeding things along (Really having trouble keeping that tank below 80f, I'll be happy to see it leave). Spots have been gone for a while now...

8 weeks sounds like longer than what I have been reading. I understood the the tomont stage was just a few days and that thermonts would die within a couple of days if they cannot find a host. I am taking advantage of getting a new tank to QT the rock in the new tank and the fish in the old...

Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

Skimmer is on it's way!!! I snagged a Lifereef Protein Skimmer VS3-24 on eBay for 1/3rd the price of a new one. I am hopeful this is a good choice. It looks like it will fit perfectly in my sump (So far nothing has fit right, this time it really needs to though!) Now down to the lights. I...

Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

Right, I probably explained the setup wrong. The powerhead is the 'return' for the refugium (See shot below). The rocks are just thrown in. I am doing a copper treatment in the old tank so had to get the rock and all the non-fish critters moved over (You can't see them in the picture but...

Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

Ok, after talking to Barrier Reef the setup is much simpler, flex tubing and the Megaflow accessory kits. Picked up a Eheim 1262 for the return pump. Had to cut out one of the supports on the new cabinet to get the sump in place but replaced it with a 2x6 so that should be stronger than the...

    Plumbing help pricing

Arghh, just did the first shopping spree to McLendons and got home to find out the bulkheads are too big for the holes. The 3/4 fits in what should be the 1" and I imagine a 1/2 would fit in the returns. Does anyone else have bulkheads? HD and Lowes do not.

good points, I do have a union on my current return and will plan To do the same this time. Looking for recommendations for the return. Quiet is key. What do I need something around 900-1000gph?

    Plumbing help pricing

Ok, it seems unanimous that I should give it a go. Plus I feel better knowing that I can get help if needed. I am gathering pieces tonight.

Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

My plan was to use either a 30 or 55 gallon plastic barrel and mix it up as Kalkwasser to use as my top off. If I can get the go ahead to use the garage then I will also have a barrel to mix salt in and use for water changes.

Setting up a new 125, help with configuration

Thanks for the good words and advice. I remember making way too many trips to HD and McLendons last time so will over purchase this time and return what I don't need. I think I scored an acrylic 30g tall tank for a fuge so at least I won't have to worry about cutting glass! Still trying to...

    Plumbing help pricing

I am setting up a new tank (See this thread: http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51769) and am wondering what it might cost to have someone come out and help me get the plumbing done right. If you do that sort of thing and would like to PM me with an hourly rate or whatever I...
