    Maxspect G2-160W

Most Cree leds are rated 50,000 lifetime hours which means after 50,000 hours their luminosity will have dropped off 30% from a when they were new. So if they put out 100 lumens new after 50,000 hours on average they will put out 70 lumens. I looked up what the the xp-g leds (since that is...

    Same question, different day

I feel bad about the group buy. Sux the retailers can force a manufacturers hand when it comes to a group buy. I do agree with everyone else that the apex has the best feature set for the price, but I am also really tempted by the ReefAngel. It is cheap and with some diy it can do everything...

    Same question, different day

I just wish I had the extra cash at the moment to get in on the deal also. I feel better at least knowing someone that will benefit.

    lobo and zoanthids?

with the lobo we have anything that is within a few inches of it gets zapped at night when it extends the feeding tentacles so I would think it would be able to fight off some zoanthids, but of course yours might be different. I do believe in general that lobos are considered to have a strong...

    Angels and Zoas

My emperor will eat zoas, but not nearly fast enough to destroy a whole colony. I think as long as there are other things for them to pick at they won't focus on one. I have two zoa rocks that might lose a polyp every now and then, but it would be hard to tell that there is any damage.

    Using "GFO" or not?

Awesome sounds like a much better solution than running gfo. Thanks for the tip!

    Using "GFO" or not?

So I did some googling and it does say that the people at Atlantis use it to lower phosphates by dripping it into their skimmer since it binds with phosphate and turns into a solid for quick removal. My question is how do you use it Don? How much do you dose? Where do you get it? How often...

    Millie Being not so Millie-ish

I would say that it is from lack of light. The first picture shows that the base is shaded from the intense light and that will definitely cause the greenish/brown look that means that the coral has taken on more zoozanthelle (sp?) because there isn't enough light. The coral will be fine, but...

    What is this Nudi?

thanks I definitely haven't seen any reason to remove it from the sump so far (heck I haven't seen it since). On the PSAS forum spllbnd2(Alex) mentioned it could be SACOGLOSSA ELYSIOIDEA. He also gave me this great link that has more information than I know what to do with...

    running sump without cheato ?

no it does the same job as the cheato. Activated carbon removes all kindsa chemicals but not nitrate or phosphate which is what the vodka dosing will help to lower.

    running sump without cheato ?

read before dosing anything, because it can be dangerous to dose vodka. Here are some links: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1589131 http://glassbox-design.com/2008/achieved-through-observation-and-experimentation/ http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/index.php
