I have no idea what I'm doing in Everett, WA

Looks good. I was going to offer you some live rock but looks like you already got some. I'm over by Silver Lake. Good to see someone else in the Everett area. I just got back into the hobby with a 24g cube. I've got a candy cane pistol shrimp and a Yasha Goby. They are fun to watch and...

What is the best quiet skimmer?

I'm starting to plan a new tank build where quiet is a key requirement. My plan is to locate it in my family room where noise will be a problem. It will be a mixed reef system and 150-200g. I'm looking for recommendations for the best performing skimmer that is quiet. I'd prefer in sump, but...

    20,000 gallon home aquarium

That is very impressive. Makes what I normally think is a big tank look like a nano.

I have two small RBTA for trade.

Do you still have the other one? I don't have anything to trade as I'm starting over. Would you sell it?

    Led ?

I decided on the same. I also got a 12" TRUELUMEN LED STRIP 12K 50/50 and a Y cable to hook it up the white channel of the Orbit. Seems like a great fit for my plans. I'm going to have a softie nano tank with a paired Candy Stripe Pistol Shrimp and Yasha Goby.

    Restarting a neglected dead tank

Just needed a little more patience. Or maybe me posting got the cycle to make some progress. :P Tested again tonight and it's starting to read nitrite. I was running a big 210g tank. For now I'm starting out again with a 29g cube. The big tank was in my den. I want my tank to be in my rec...

    Restarting a neglected dead tank

I have a tank which has been idle and without any living critters for about 4 years now. I have disease and die-off and generally was out of the hobby. Sand, rock and water sat in the tank unheated, with no circulation and no tank lights. It did get some ambient light from too and window. Now...

    Reef Radiance!

I just heard of these. I stopped by a LFS today, Denny's Pet World, to check out LED lights and a guy there recommended these over the stuff they sell. I'd love to hear thoughts on these once you guys get them.

    Mr. Squirty's SPS Garden

Wow indeed! How big is the clam? Or is everything else just miniaturized? :P

    ~~72 Gallon Tank Automation~~

I've thought of doing this myself a few years ago using a PIC. Your design sounds very similar to one I started working on. My main goal was to have an ATO system which controls RO/DI shutoff as well as maintain tank/sump water level. This is one area I haven't seen on commercially available...

Repair water damage on wood stand

That's what I though. I agree, it doesn't make any sense to me why stands are built with this stuff. I was quite surprised to see it was particle board when it expanded like that. It has a very good veneer on it so I thought it was solid.

My 72 Gallon Bowfront Reef Tank

I had a very similar experience. Got a serpent star from liveaquaria when I first set up a reef tank. Everything went well for a while and the serpent star seemed like a great addition as it was great and tracking down excess food. After a couple of years, the excess food wasn't enough or...

Ecotech Radion LED: Are they worth it?

What is involved with upgrading a gen 1 to a gen 3? Getting a gen1 and upgrading later sounds good. I would have them mounted inside my canopy so the improvements to how they look isn't of any value to me. What is involved in upgrading from gen1 to gen3? What does it cost?

Ecotech Radion LED: Are they worth it?

I have one of the original Vortech pumps and love it. Now I'm considering going LED when I rebuild my tank. Does anyone have experience with the Radio LED units? Much like the Vortech, they are about the most expense way to go. Are they worth it? Are there any LFS in the Puget Sound area...

    Heater Preference.

I completely agree with multiple heaters. I've also had the fun an excitement of a cracked heater so I'd also recommend a non-glass heater. I use a titanium heater. I have an older version of this one...

Repair water damage on wood stand

The damage is to a support member. I believe the water leaked from inside platform and soaked into the bottom of the stand leg. I'm generally handy and think I could fix it, but I'm concerned about what is sufficient to support the weight.

Repair water damage on wood stand

I've got a 210g tank sitting on a wood stand. I bought the setup used many years ago and was told it is a custom built stand. Not sure how relevant that is. Anyway, the tank has been sitting unused for quite some time and I've noticed an area where the wood has split due to water damage and...

    Whats new since 2010?

I've been out of the hobby for almost 4 years. I started a family and had an unfortunate massive over-feeding and die off while on vacation. My tank has been idle ever since. I'm curios what people think are the most significant technology advancements or best practice changes in the last...

    Sick purple tang

So, any tips or tricks on how to get a 1.5" six-line wrasse out of a 210g tank? The best I can think of is to try to bait him into a net or bag with some food. This is how I got the purple tang out. It's just so painful to finally coax them into the trap and barely miss. Would a wide mouth...

    Sick purple tang

I did notice some small specks on the tangs tail fin and on the fins of my six-line wrasse. I thought they had Ich, but it cleared up and then the white spots on the tang showed up. I don't see any signs of Ich on any of the fish now. I did notice another strange behavior. The six-line...
