    Getting back into the hobby!!!

I have a 36 gallon bowfront that I really like. Its dimensions lend itself to be fairly flexible with aquascaping and still have room for overflows, power heads and such.

    Hello

Hi Scott, I love this hobby too. Have you been in it very long and what sort of tank do you have?

    Hello!

Have you ever tried the frozen Emerald Entree or Angel Formula? That will help satisfy its needs for greens too. Getting the creatures to all co habitate peacefully can be a trick. I just bought 2 new small fish, a tail spot blenny and a hi fin goby. Well I haven't seen the goby since the...

Supplementing T5s with a strip LED?

Thanks Dauguy and Lucked out for your input. I think I will definitely add LEDs when I can afford it. Luckedout, what size tank do you have and how many LEDs did you add?

Supplementing T5s with a strip LED?

Hi, I need some advice. I have great health and growth in my 36 bowfront with a 30" T5 fixture, 2 daylight and 2 actinic bulbs. I have mostly LPS, a few softies and a crocea clam. What I don't have is colors that pop! If I added a True lumen 24" LED in deep blue would that give me the colors...

    Hello!

I wondered if what I saw in the upper left corner was a bit color angel. Have you had it long? Now I see the Coral Beauty too. I had a Coral Beauty a long time but when I scaled down to a smaller tank I traded it at the LFS for credit. I didn't want to chance it nipping on the mantle of my clam.

    Hello!

Much better! Now we can clearly see that beautiful anemone, and your tangs, foxfaces and clowns. How many fish do you have?

    Hello!

Maybe for you it would be easier to remove your fixture while you are working in the tank and hang a light from the ceiling that can be plugged in. Of course you'd want to know that it was secure or you could really get your hair curled if it fell!!! LOL Ok, that's not funny but you get the...

    Hello!

I'm guessing your light fixture plays into all this too. I built a shelf up high enough to work at the top of the tank so I'd still have light but also could get my arms in the tank. That still doesn't"t address getting close enough because the sump is in the way though. Could you get by with...

    Hello!

Wow, your pics look just like our tank, especially the closet shots. We didn't have a sump and I can definitely see how it even limits you more. Also my tank was a fish only so I didn't have all the maintenance that comes with reef lighting.

    Hello!

We had a tank in the wall of our living room that I accessed through a closet in our kid's room. I totally sympathize with your limited access issues! It was a really cool look but when I upgraded I went for an ordinary set up with a stand. For me a clean well maintained tank is more showey...

Where has all the particpation gone???

Hi, I'm fairly new to RF, just joined last year but I have really appreciated the site. I know that I have been busy caring for my mother in law who is bed fast so I hadn't been on in ages and I am sorry. I was hoping to be more active here once the Christmas season was past.

    Dawn's new 36 bowfront aquarium

I have made one major equipment upgrade. I added an auto top off float switch system to the sump. My sump only had slightly more than 2" from high water mark and low water and in the summer I needed to add a half gallon a day. It was too risky to go away and leave the tank in someone's care...

    Dawn's new 36 bowfront aquarium

Hi all! I know I haven't posted in quite awhile but just letting you know I'm still in the hobby. My tank is doing well although almost had a disaster yesterday. We had a power outage in the night and apparently a surge fried my controller that was for my chiller and it ran continuously...

    Java's Upgrade - 57 Rimless

I guess only the tiniest fish would fit and off hand I can't think of any reef fish that could get stuck. My husband is a bottle collector and that's why we had one in our tank. You're not a bottle collector too, are you?

    Java's Upgrade - 57 Rimless

Is that a bottle in the tank? Once in a FW tank we had a raphael catfish go in a bottle and open his spikey fins and get stuck. He was in there 3 days when my husband decided he needed rescued. He got a hammer and hit the bottle just hard enough to crack it without crushing the fish. (This...

    Hi all.

A lot of folks do put DSB in their sump and I think the miracle mud would work the same way with anaerobic bacteria breaking down nitrates. You are not suppose to disturb the anaerobic bacteria though and miracle mud is basically used up in 2 yrs. and is supposed to be replaced. Yes, I...

    Running

I don't think you can go wrong using vinegar. Another cheap cleaning remedy is bleach. It's toxic if not rinsed well but it kills old algaes and when rinsed it leaves no residue. We used it at the LFS I worked at to clean everything in aquariums.
