    Fungus??

Forgot to mention that amoxicillian is not a good choice. Terry B

    Fungus??

Keep in mind that many antibiotics have to be used at double the dose for freshwater when used in saltwater. Since the fish seems to be at a standstill using kanamycin it sounds like you are on the right tract using an antibiotic. You just need a different antibiotic or a stronger dose. You...

    RXP and Ich

I would not recommend using any of the so-called reef safe remedies for ich. They usually don't work. If you are having problems using a quarantine tank then it is probably because you don't keep a cycled Qtank running at all times to avoid problems with water quality. Terry B

    Antimicrobial Resin and Fish Disease

I think Steve is right. I have not seen an ion exchange resin that works more than briefly in saltwater. Interesting idea though that could be useful for freshwaer aquariums. Terry B

Here are pictures of my sick clowns.

Looks like brooklynella to me. Terry B

    How do you get ich?

Malachite green is a bad choice. I hope that you don't greatly regret it. Terry B

    How do you get ich?

I can't agree with much in that article or with what Paul said. If you quarantine all fish for 3+ weeks BEFORE they go into the display tank then you may never have an outbreak. Once it is in a reef the only real way to get rid of it for sure is to remove ALL the fish (not inverts) for 30 to 60...

    Instant toxic water

Your pH is very low, not slightly low. Raise it slowly with a couple of water changes using well aged and aerated saltwater. A pH that low can kill the fish. How much water circulation do you have? Do you have a lot of water surface agitation for good gas exchange? Terry B

    Waterlife Octozin?

Yes, there is that rare occasion to run across a strain resistant to hypo. However, I still prefer hypo as my first choice of treatment because it is safer, doesn't poison the fish and does not suppress immune function. Cupramine is a good backup or the transfer method. The transfer method...

cirolanid Isopod, show me pictures please.

Fortunately they are uncommon. I think they usually come in on live rock. They also drop off the fish when the lights come on so its not as simple as just plucking them off of the fish. As long as one mature female is in the tank they are tough to get rid of. You can spend a lot of nights with a...

    Waterlife Octozin?

Plastic swing arm type hydrometers are notoriously innaccurate. It is crucial that the salinity is measured accurately. If you did not administer hyposalinity correctly then the treatment cannot succeed. Glad to hear that the fish is doing fine now. Terry B

    Keeping Flame Angels-more than one?

I think that the angels that are tank raised are kept together with several others as they grow. They naturally begin to pair up. Probably hit or miss trying to pair two strange adults to one another. Even if they potentially could bond they would fight over territory first in an aquarium. Some...

    Waterlife Octozin?

I agree with everything that Steve said. If you need to make water changes durng copper treatment it complicates keeping the copper level constant. If you have a cycled quarantine tank then you may not have to make a water change during the treatment. I have tested Cupramine twice a day for the...

    Waterlife Octozin?

It is possible that you came across a strain of C.I that was resistant to a specific gravity of 1.009, but that would be unusual. What did you measure the salinity with? Lets talk about salinity rather than specific gravity. What was the salinity at? How long did you use hypo? For future...

    Fish disease ID

If the remaining fish are doing fine then I would continue feeding garlic soaked foods. You could use some Praziquantel. Keep in mind that white stringy poop can be caused by tainted foods. How old are the foods and how do you store them? Terry B

    Waterlife Octozin?

I do not consider Metronidazole to be a consistently effective treatment for C.I. Terry B

    Fish disease ID

The tainted food would have little to do with internal worms, but it could have a lot to do with an internal bacterial infection. I recommend storing all foods, including flake, in the freezer. You should only buy foods in portions that you will use up within a couple of months. Get some fresh...

    Fish disease ID

I would guess that the lesion on the gills is viral in nature. Not much you can do to treat viral infections directly. You can improve the diet, reduce stress and use some Beta glucan. The fish may recover after the problem with the unusual feces is delt with. Since more than one fish is...

    Fish disease ID

That looks like it could be a tape worm or possibly dead intestines coming out. Pretty dense to be just white poop. Your best bet is to move to quarantine for treatment. I would use praziquantel with some furanase, Maracyn-Two, or nitrofurazone. Terry B

    anthias w spots

Steve is giving you good advice. I don't have proof that it helps, but I like to reduce the salinity when a fish has lymphocystis. My hypothesis is that since marine fish expend 25 to 50% of their metabolic energy on osmoregulation reducing the salinity close to isotonic would conserve a lot of...
