    Painting acrylic?

I've used Spar enamel a few times with good results, may take two coats though. If your tank is stress or was flame polished, laquer or other solvent based paints can induce crazing as previously stated - so would be best to avoid them just to be safe. HTH, James

    Cleaning acrylic

Given those 2 options: Provided any holes you want in the glass tank are in place, I'd go with the glass tank. With the used tank, you are inheriting any problems it may have and will probably not receive any sort of warranty. For this, you should recieve a great discount, since you are not -...

    PVC vs. ABS

Check out other plastics as well: One is Seaboard which is a UV stabilized material very similar to Starboard but comes in a few different colors and is cheaper. Another to check out is Kydex which is an "alloy" of PVC and acrylic, used often for backgrounds in public aquaria. Yet another is...

    Cracked Eurobrace

Hi Kevin, I put a call into Polycast this AM just to verify my thoughts on the subject. The answer was that went along with their spec sheet; since acrylic does not transmit UVA or UVB, it would not travel to affect joint strength. My opinion on your experience would be more in line with...

    Cracked Eurobrace

Kevin, I'm not so sure I'd agree with ya with regard to UV radiation on today's acrylic though I think we are in fair agreement on most of your points. Years ago, yep I would have to agree with it but today's acrylic is much better in this regard and due to reformulations in resins and changes...

    Cracked Eurobrace

Hi there Mike, long time no see :) The angle iron route does work though there can be a coupla drawbacks. First is material, *I personally* wouldn't do it unless it was 316 stainless or better, like titanium ($$$$$) due to corrosion though powder coated could work for a while. Second is...

    Cracked Eurobrace

Nikki, While I don't argue with Scooterman's above statement. The flaw is in the design to start with IMO and adding a patch is only a temporary fix, again IMO. The flaw is thinking that using 1" for the top will compensate for not using the centerbrace, thicker material must be used for the...

    Cracked Eurobrace

Hi Chuck, Hope the fix works out well for you. The reason for the crazing is that the material is stressed. The stresses was initially caused (IMO) by flame polishing, then a period of time with the tank filled and covered by MH lighting which raises and lowers the temp of the material. The...
