    Mistakes Forum

My biggest mistake was to under estimate the hobby after being gone for a long while, 30yrs. It seems when you read the threads, that all you have to do is follow a certain recipe and your gauranteed success, not so. Next, thinking that even though you are a newbie, you can approach this in a...

    hang on skimmer recommendations

I have the Remora C Pro with the skimmer box and the Mag 3, can't say enough good about it. I have the drain fitting out of the collection cup so I don't have to empty it all of the time, have a hose attached to a three gallon water jug underneath in the cabinet. I can adjust the collection cup...

DSB to BB in a 75 gal non-drilled tank

Well, I started this weekend. Pulled all of the rock out and it's "cooking" in a tub on the porch, hoping one month is all it needs. Kids are in the tank, kind of confused as it's wide open. Next weekend, out comes the sand and in goes the Starboard. Going to make some racks this week so I'm...

DSB to BB in a 75 gal non-drilled tank

I'm looking for comments on going from a DSB to BB in my 75 gal non-drilled tank. I have a HOB Remora C Pro with skimmer box, two 820 Seios, 300 gph Ehiem canister and 8 bulb T5VHO's. All of the threads I've read talk about needing Ozone, more flow and better skimming to do this. What do you...

THAT water gets heavy! But it makes so much difference

I currently mix in one of our bathrooms, in the containers I bought and mix with a pump overnight. I have a cheap heater and bring the water up to temperature before I do the water change. I do at least a 20% change monthly. When I get the RO/DI unit, I plan on making water and storing in the...

THAT water gets heavy! But it makes so much difference

I purchased five seven gallon water jugs from Wallyworld. They have tap spouts and are very handy, but very heavy. I carry them up to a second floor apartment through two locked doors. I plan on ordering RO/RI from the filter guys this. I figure it's cheaper than a doctors visit for a bad back.

    Lights Off

I recently read in another forum, that some reefers turn their lights off for 3 days every two months or so, and then gradually bring their lights back on, acintic first then the brights. They claim that after doing this, it seems that their tanks appear healthier. Reasoning being that in the...

    To Remora Owners

I've had a Remora Pro for about 5 months, great skimmer. My collection cup has the drain attachment and I probably clean it weekly, unless it is so funky it needs it sooner. I cleaned the whole unit once, probably after two months. Scrubbed it good and when I put it back in service, had to go...

    Three questions

Do you actually spell it Dry Z Air? Can't find anything on it when I google it.

    Three questions

returnofsid, Where do you get the Dri Z Air? I have a remora pro for the main tank, should this suffice? What manuf/style/gpm pump are you thinking of upgrading to?

    Three questions

mmkeeper, your right, I did a google search after posting and discovered this. I don't think this will work in the two part systems I've been reading about. I looked all over yesterday for the Dow Flake and couldn't find it. Living in the Northeast, with the winter we're still having, de-icer is...

    Three questions

Thanks Krish. In fact I was reading your thread about the closed loop last night and it got me thinking that it may be a viable option. Thought it would be rather inexpensive and not add a lot of heat to the water. Got up this morning and started to review the costs of the pumps and loc...

    Three questions

I'd be interested in everyone's thoughts on the following; 1. I've been looking at the two part additive threads for adding Alk/Calc/Mag using Dow Flake and I was wondering is this just not rock salt? Rock salt is nothing added a mined product. 2. Thinking of getting a refugium, is it better...

    Powerheads for wave makers

In reviewing the net on this topic, the only problems I've found are them making noise at startup and propellers starting backwards everyother time. I'm wondering if the reason Seio says their not recommended to be run on one, was because they were coming out with a wavemaker of their own and...

    RO/DI Systems

Don, So you have two Tsunami's and an Ocean Reef?

    RO/DI Systems

Pretty stout, seems as if you can look past the hype and still wear your wallet out.

    RO/DI Systems

Thanks Don, it's like anything else in this hobby, you can spend as much as your wallet can stand or you can meet the need and look past the hype.

    RO/DI Systems

From everything I've seen, Spectrapure is very popular and the fitler guys seem to get a lot of kudos also. I guess I'll have to research more and try to find out what my water pressure is.

    Powerheads for wave makers

I've kind of determined that from the threads I've read and I understand that I can upgrade them to push more water. I'm not very skilled at DIY and was hoping someone would have some experience with some other manufacurer. I'm not sure if 300 gph is significant enough to make a difference with...

    Powerheads for wave makers

I bought a power strip for making waves, it alternates power between two outlets and you can set the duration. A third outlet is random and there are three full time outlets. My question is, are there any power heads, with decent flow, that can operate on this system? I have two Seio 820's but...
