Glad to have you on board! You finally took my advice. Best of luck, Mike

Looking for info on ETSS ReefDevil 750 Gemini

You should try the Iwaki 40RLT. You can always dial it back, and depends on the water level in the sump in relation to the skimmer. Just my opinion, Mike

    Sick Midas Blenny

Had the same happen to me, My Midas went down quick. Very sad. I wish you more luck than I. Mike

    ETSS 800 Protein Skimmer

Gear*guru, I don't think that there is any submersible, with enough umph. I have used Iwaki 40RLXT, and 55RLT, and even the 70 in a few cases. Not many sub pumps that can hang in that company. I have an etss 600 that bangs pretty well with the largest Eheim pump. Forget which model number it...

I think I can, thought I could, so I did

Les, I think that your Mechanal Engineer, has never been around BIG tanks before. I bet that when you have your tank at 80+F and salted to 1.025, you will see what "bellying out" really looks like. Your Mechanical Engineer just ran the numbers, and didn't take into consideration the fact that...

I think I can, thought I could, so I did

To Edgerat and Big T, I really think that you all are missing the very valid points that I, as well as Pony have made. I know that everyone wants to save a buck, and some want to take pride in building something themselves. Aren't you saving enough money in "Doing it Yourself", why not make...

I think I can, thought I could, so I did

Looks great! At 1/2" sides, I'd pay your home owners insurance early. I wish you the best of luck, but keep your shop vac at the ready. Leave the tanks to the professionals. Just ask Crows Ridge! Everyone that can cut some wood thinks that they can build a tank. Just think of all the animals...

I think I can, thought I could, so I did

Looking good! Just one question? Why are there pipe clamps holding the top togeather? What thickness is the sides of your tank? Ok two questions! Mike

    Starboard = cuttingboard?

Starboard is uv rated, and cutting board is not, just plain old uhmw. What is the reason for using this as a substrait for a reef? I just couldn't figure this out on my own. Thanks, Mike

HELP! Me set up a 125 SPS tank..please!

I'd go with an ETSS 600 or an 800 if you have the cash. You will never have to worry if either skimmer is going to be enough! Good luck, and post some pic's. Where are you located in the country? Mike

    New Tank Design

Wana, You should really go with Acrylic. I would just call around for prices on the thickness that you need. Also, what thickness do you plan on for the front and back? There are a few great tank builders in the area, try James fron Envisions Acrylic. He might give you a rippen deal on...

    DIY Refugiums, any help?

Refugium Have you ever thought to add the new refugium above the tank? I would add one that is around 30+ gallons above the tank, and pump only 150-250 gph through it, from a small powerhead hid in the rockwork some where, and let it gravety feed back into the main tank. You could grow some...

    What Chiller are you using?

I have been using the new Aqua Medic, and have been a little disappointed. This is my 2nd unit, (1/2HP) and this one is doing some funny things. Just wanted to hear what brand, and what size you all are using. Also, what type of controller are you using? Thanks, Mike

    wet/dry

Bio balls work the best when they are not submerged. You are looking for a dark, moist, high oxygen place with alot of surface area for your bacteria to process the ammonia and nitrite. Hope this helps you in the design of your wet/dry. Mike

    Puget Sound Tank

Ken, A native species tank isn't as popular as they should be. One of the reasons is the cost of a properly sized chiller. Your tank needs to be extra thick, so it won't let the cold out. You must have the tank temp down in the 50F range. They are low light, so you don't need 400W MH on them...

    what pump?

I was kinda looking to hear whar pumps you guys own. I have to make some choices. I am interested to hear if anyone has experience with the new Eheim 1260. I am thinking of using it for a skimmer. (old etss reef devil) What brands and why? Thanks, Mike
