Well, I've been drawing out plans for the nest tank and have gone back and forth between ply and acrylic. Since I have built more skimmers and such for the local club members, feel that I can tackle a tank.

Size - 72"l x 24"h x 36"w The 72" is non negothable (sp) wife said that's all the wall that I can have :( and the 24"h is cause I have short arms  Anyway thought of a coast to coast but then was suggested to put it outside. It'll have a CL using something like this http://www.weatherson.com/sinusoidal_valve.htm but not sure if it'll be just a flow thru or not. (minus the valve) I have been gathering up some equipment for it, a Sequence 4200, AMP 3k and an Iwaki 55. I'll need another Sequence or two, made a dual beckett skimmer for it, a kalk reactor, working on a Deltic clone calicum reactor. Let's see, light's - have two dual PFO HQI ballasts and the two Iwaki's so will be blending the lights from 65k and 20k

Any changes or ideas - lay it on me

Wana thats a perfect size for that tank, 36 front to back should make for some awesome aquscaping. Really neat idea on the valve block!!!! how fast doest it flip from one to the next??

Going outside of the tank from the coast to coast works real well, we call it a weir and just put one on Jessies 7 foot starphire, you can keep the overflow out back to. One thing to concider is that it might be a touch more noisy, but you could do things to help that.

Sounds really great! I personally would go w/ acrylic, It woudl be a lot faster and is easier, but also much more pricy. I also like the idea of a external coast-coast. I doubt that you will have much blending the 65k and 20k lights, but good luck on that! Are you going to use pendants, or spider reflectors or something similar?

Thinking of just using spiders for now. But those Reef Optics would be worth a try.

Ceasar - Yeah I'll need some help - need $$ for the acrylic   j/k thanks for the offer

I have reef optic III with the SE mogul bulbs on my tank. They are nice pendants and very well made, however you will have issues getting the light to blend, because of how it is projected. So if you plan on going w/ those I would suggest going with 1 color of lamps.

Wana,
You should really go with Acrylic. I would just call around for prices on the thickness that you need. Also, what thickness do you plan on for the front and back? There are a few great tank builders in the area, try James fron Envisions Acrylic. He might give you a rippen deal on the plastic you need! Oh ya, he can build a tank like nobodys business! There is also a guy just east of Seattle than can put the throw down on a tank too. Keep us all posted on the project, Mike
