I'm not positively sure, but I was told they can be beneficial and a pain also. here is a link to a decet article

bristleworms are just a detrivore and part of your clean up crew. No matter how big they get they wont start munching healthy corals. If you hae a lot of them it is becasue you have the excess nutrients for them to feed off of.

That pic DrDee posted wasnt even the biggest one i pulled out of a agressive tank (two lions and a eel) i used to have.....crushed coral substrate to boot. it wasnt a clean tank and they thrived. I had thousands of them and 10"ers were common. That dark one i posted is a eunicid and it is most defitnely not just part of your clean up crew. Its a bad guy. once they get very big at all they are coral munchers.
