so my parents have a 175g tank that is about 2-3 feet tall and 5-6 feet wide (ill get exact measurements when i find a tape measure)

they are interested in purchasing a new lighting fixture that will replace the old unit

is there a system with ballast/metal halides/etc that you guys can recommend?

heres me standing by the tank

ps. they only have softies now but want to raise some sps soon!

T5's or Metal Halide with T5's will grow anything they want.
On the high end you have Giesseman(sp?) with m.h. and T5.
Then several companies making just m.h. fixtures and several making just T5 fixtures.
Because they have a canopy they could also go retro with either or both.
ATI makes the best T5 fixtures at the high end, but Aquatinics, Ice cap and others are good as well for T5.

Check out forum sponsors and premium aquatics and if you need more resources google aquarium lighting for more online options.
