1st Acrylic Project

Well I broke down and did my first acrylic project yesterday and today. I needed a light fixture for my fuge, and had some cast smoked acrylic that they were disposing of at work, so.....

I made the relector out of polished stainless, bought 2 outdoor lamp holders and figured out the angles on my pc. I wasn't worried about polishing the edges, or watertight seams on this. I learned a few things and in the process got my fixture out of it.

The grooves in the bottom sit on the edges of the fuge and hold it in place really well. It only has one light in it in the picture, but I picked up another one.

I'm running the Coralife 50/50 bulbs in it....

Thanks guys, it's no 6' skimmer, but we all have to start somewhere. It was a good practice project. Yes it helps to have access to certain items...

Hey Ken, is heat a problem with the hood being acrylic? Think it would work for a MH?

Nice job Ken! That's a first class sump light fixture for sure! Where do you get the bulbs? How often do you replace them? I have a similar bulb on my sump that I replace every 8 mo or so just to be safe. Do you burn them 24/7?

Thanks again guys. I don't know if MH heat would be a concern if they were far enough away from the acrylic with proper ventalation, I don't know. The Coralife 50/50 bulbs I get at a LFS, I haven't thought about changing them, have only had the one for 3 months, but what would it do if it was old, grow my Cheato better.. LOL...
