200 Gallon Quarter Round Reef

We just started a fun build, a 200 Gallon Quarter Round Reef. Our client wanted a unique aquarium that matches some of the cool details in their house. They have several curved wall, and what a better accent than a Quarter Round Reef!
Today we started the steel stand. We bent 2 pieces of 2"x2"x 3/16 wall tube for the 96" Radius. Then we welded up the rails to form a pie shaped top and bottom. The top will need some extra support. The bottom will have a Quarter Round Reef filter fit inside. We will be skinning the steel with Cherry, and have a matching canopy for the LED lights.

This is the Bottom being mocked up.



We use steel "Dogs" to keep the steel from moving while we put the heat to it.

Here is where the plumbing will go, in the very back corner.



Here is the top almost all welded up. Has the support for the tank, and the weight is starting to add up.

We finished the steel work today on the Quarter Round. She turned out spot on. Was concerned with the radius pieces being tweeked a bit, but was pleasantly surprised that they were right on the money.

Here is a pic of the 1/2" tube that we use for the "through holes". About ready to put the heat to it!


We have the back post in, and getting ready to add one of the fronts.


Boom Shakalaka! She is done.


Here is the details of the removable center support. Gotta be able to put the sump in there somehow. High end stainless hardware from the sailboat industry.

The Quarter round stand is all painted, and has the double sided plastic laminate plywood fused on. We used some black aquarium silicone. It's never going to come off!

The Left side which is black. The pic makes it look curved, but it is very strait!


Here is the laminated Cherry face frame. Took lots of hours to match the curve exactly. Just some of our skills!
