Rf,

I made some good progress on the 210 Full Build today. Took delivery of the all the Cherry wood on Saturday. Got busy with mounting all the face frames to the steel stand. Doors will be mounted tomorrow. Next will be mounting and detail wiring all the Ecotech Radions, Battery Back up's, Apex controller and other assorted reef goodness. We can see the finish line!

Here is the Shaker style clamshell LED Canopy. It will have a back board with all the wiring, and adjustable mounts for 4- Radions.

This is with the canopy in place as well as the face frames.

Here is the freshly powder coated steel stand with one the stainless fasteners in one of our through holes.

The stainless fastener mounted into one of the panels. You can unbolt it as many times as you want, it will not fail.

Shot of the canopy with a few doors open.

I'm really surprised that more people haven't asked questions about this build. Everyone who has ever met me knows that I'm more than willing to chat about the how's, and why's of the details. Let's hear some feedback! Hello? Is there anyone awake out there?! Enjoy the pic's, anyway, Jason

I dig that clamshell a lot. I am very curious as to how the lights will be mounted and the cable mangement and such...

RF,

Here is a little update on the 210 build. Been super busy procuring all the little stainless bits and pieces for the canopy. We have a bunch of equipment that will be up there, so we need to take our time and not shotgun it all in. Our style has always been super clean and organized.

Here is the White Starboard back panel, aluminum angle, and all stainless hardware.

The front side.

This pic is of the 4 Radion power supplies, mounted with aluminum 1"x3" angle, and the power strip, and the Apex power strip.

Here are the 4 adjustable pods that the Radion's will mount to. I will be on the lathe later making the 5/8 aluminum standoffs. I'll drill and tap one end with metric threads, and the other end with 1/4-20. We will also be mounting 2- smart fans to give the canopy some positive venting.

Does anyone have a pulse out there? This is going to be one "world class aquarium", that anyone would be proud to own. If anyone has any questions, feel free to join in.
Until next time, Jason

Hi Jason, all your stuff is always awesome, kinda just expect world class from you lol. I see the dosing reservoirs built in the sump. That seems to be more common lately with a lot of sump builds. What are your personal thoughts on including dosing chambers in a sump? I am not really crazy about the idea, but not sure why. Also it looks like the skimmer chamber is custom sized for that skimmer, did you try and talk customer into bigger chamber in case he wants to upgrade skimmer later? Would be a sham eto have to get whole new sump because of skimmer chamber being to small. IMO the #1 purpose most people look at sumps for is a place to put a skimmer. So in my mind, a BIG skimmer changer is is important.

We went with a Vertex 250 skimmer. I think this skimmer will be the ticket for now and into the future for this 210 gallon reef. There is room all the way around to go to the Vertex 300 if need be.

Thanks to all that have left me positive comments, it has been a real pleasure to build for you guys for the last 13.5 years! Jason

RF,

Spent some time on the lathe today. Doing some basic machining on the Radion standoffs. We are using some 5/8" Aluminum rod, cutting them a touch longer than 4" with the band saw, then chucking them up in the lathe, squaring them up, and setting the length to 4.000". Camera wanted to focus on my QD tool post, oh well.

QC with a caliper.

We are done with this step. A stainless stud will be threaded here to mate with the Radion, the other end will be threaded 1/4-20 for standardization.

Reefers,

Worked on the 210 all day today, sooo much fun! Installed the wire chase today, going to be nice and neat, no rats nest of wired on this build!

We installed 2 3" smart fans as well. They are a variable speed fan that has a temperature probe, the higher the temp, the faster it spins. The probe is hide at the top of the canopy.

Got all the machining done on the Radion standoffs, they are in the paint booth as I type.

Attached the white Starboard back boards to the stand today. Just getting closer, and closer!

This system is turning out fantastic! I might just put it in my house to "test" it for awhile! Quality control or something? Enjoy, Jason

That is frickin awesome craftsmanship!!! I like it and agree... must be fully tested before it ships. You could test it here at my place if you'd like.

Cheers,
Alex

RF,

Got a few pic updates off the camera today. We had the plumbing almost done, but the German Valves that I like to use have been back ordered forever. But to give you an idea.

All sch 80 Spears fittings/unions.

I made a pair of pipe clamp mounts for the back board. All high grade Stainless hardware.

Just to get the idea.
