Im setting up a new 120g reef. I was planing to send water with (Mag18) from my sump all the way out of the house about 50ft throw hard pvc. It first gets to a 20g were the skimmer is at, im thinking about a ETSS or a Precision Marine. From there it flows to a 10g mangrove tank, then it flows again to a 30g algae tank, AGAIN it flows to a 200g concrete pond were I used to have Cichlids. Im putting a small sand bed about 2 to 3 inches and lot of live rock, this fuge would be at my back yard with a roof but air open. There is no direct sun light nor rain.
IM LOOKING FOR OTHER PERSONS POINTS OF VIEW FOR THIS PROJECT
thanks :)

i would really like to see this one. i dont think the mag 18 is gonna do it. lol. lets hear more on this very interesting idea though.

Welcome to Reef Frontiers!!!

How many 90º and 45º turns? Any elevation changes? What are you going to bring the water back to the 120 gallon with?

Sounds like an interesting project. Do you have a diagram of the system?

It would have 4 90 and 4 45. The plumping has to go all across my bed room and about 10ft under ground to reach the fuge. I was planing of having two Mag 18 with 2 flot valve in both ends similar to those in the toilets so when the water level goes down in the sump or fuge the flots it will ristrict the water flow to be the same as the other pump, so my fuge and sump stay with the same water level, so the pump is not under presure when the flow is restricted two a certain pressure. There would be a T with a piece of PVC going up, the T would be right next to the outlet of the pump so that the pressure wich is reduced by the valve for any malfuncion of the other pump that water is forced to go out throw the top of that PVC that is conected to the T and flow right to the fuge or to the sump. If one of the pumps complitly shuts off or is bloked with somthing the valve complitly ristricts the water flow to get to the fuge or sump so it dosent flood and the water stays circulating in the same place ountil the problem is resolved. What pump you recomend me instead of the Mag's? sorry I dont have any diagram, Ill try to make one.

Interesting idea Tony. first of the paint diagram just save it as a jpeg and make sure it isnt to big, from thier you can just attach it as an attachment by clicking on the manage attachment button below the reply box when you are replying to a thread.

The Mag pump may work if the the head is only 3 feet, I have run a mag 18 about 50 feet when going horizontal. I am not sure about the float valves so a diagram would be cool. The pond outside you would have to make sure thier is good circulation in it, also some kind of screen cover to stop the amount of bugs and such that would land and die in it. Also an ammount of light is required for a sand bed (for the cyanos and such with in it) even if it is indirect that would be good.
Looking forward to the diagram.

Mike

Im goin to change to two Mags 24 instead of the 18. For circulation I will put two mag 9.5 and one Mag 7. There will be a screen not above but in the side so my dogs dont fall or are not sniffing around. During the day there is indirect sun light, but at night im going to light it in a reverse photo period a 175w MH for the mangrove tank and for the algae tank and 4 non flouresent tubes above.

What protein skimmer is the best for this project? I still cant find the way to paste my diagram from paint to the discusion her.

tony - is it saved as a jpeg? Once it is the proper size and format, click on "Add Reply" from the thread, it will take you to another screen. Type in your post, scroll down to where you see "Additional Options". Look for a button that says "Manage Attachments". Click on that and you can upload the diagram.

Hope this helps?

Hi Tony... My only concern is, the return to the sump... You have all that horsepower going to the main tank but the return might not be able to handle all the water. We have to consider that the one going to the main tank is pressured water from pump and the return is gravity feed only and with all tha traffic...somehow a bottleneck is possible.

Suggestion is make it as the biggest pipings you can use for the return and biggest bulk heads available.
