Was wondering if anyone has put metal halide lighting on a 20g tank? I am currently using a 65w smartlite PC and would like to upgrade a bit. Ive also thought about making a custom hood and getting another 65w, running one actinic and one 10k bulb.

First post, thanks in advance!

Hansoloalaska,

WELCOME TO REEF FRONTIERS

I'm the board psychic and can give readings based on what people type. I predict that you are a Star Wars fan. :D

You could put a MH on a 20g but you will need to work out a way to keep the water in the tank cool. There are DIY chillers that can be made with those little refridgerators that people put in their dorm rooms.

Hey Hans,
I have a 20 gal long with a 20 gal sump. I have a 175watt SE MH on the tank. All I am using is a 6" clip fan over the sump for cooling. Tank has been staying 78.5 to 80 degrees. Hope it helps.:)

Hey Curt is that psychic or psychotic? ha ha ha. Corallife has got a new 150 watt pendent out that is retractable and hangs from ceiling. Might be just what you need for adjusting the heat input compared to light input. Sorry Curt.

Thanks for the info!

I think the easiest and cheapest for right now will be to get another 65w PC, make a new hood and add some moon lighting.

Dont think the wife would go for the MH yet!

24 gallon Nano

hoped this worked.....

Okay one more try.....

Sorry its not a better pic but thats the best I could do since I am not a Computer Geek and the computer is obviously 2% (probably more :D ) smarter than I am. The lighting is a tad bluer in the pic than reality...

HTHs.....
