Hello reefers, I traded a 135g for a 240g, but after I picked it up and bought it home I noticed that its made wrong well to me, the bottom is on the inside, and the top is euro braced and most of the cross braces are loose, but I would like to know if this is fixable or do i just have a pile of acylic looking for something to find, check out the pics

Here is what i was think of doing , cutting out the (3) overflows and replacing tham once I have place strips of 3/4" acrylic inside in the corners all away round.

would like to thank you for all suggestions that are offered

Is this a new tank? Did you buy it from a tank builder? If you did I would say take it back and tell them to fix at the very least the loose pieces. I don't know a lot about acrylic tank. But, because acrylic welds itself together, haveing the sides on top of the bottom may not be a huge issue. But I wouldn't take my advise on that. BigT or someone can probably answer that best.

Wanted to Welcome you to Reef Frontiers!!!

Here's a bump for you..

I'm not an expert but actually I think it is right, you want the weight of the sides not on the bottom piece but on the surface below, more so with glass tanks I'd assume. I think you'll get more input from the acrylic pros here hopefully, as for as the fix maybe they can shed some light on that also.

Glass tanks are built on the outside of the bottom glass. But glass isn't attached as strong as Acryilic.

240g

No I did not buy it from a deal or shop. I traded it for a 135g and didnt notice the way it was made to begin with, if I knew that I woul dhave had him just pay me for the 135g and my trip to delviery it. no until the the weekend got here when I started to clean it out and notice this, knew about the top but not the way it was made. but im going to get it fixed one way or the other. well I hope to get it worked out.

I really don't think it to be a serious problem, regardless keep us posted on what you do with it.

I don't think it matters if it is made like that, it is easier to make it the way that most tanks are made. However if the top has blown out, then I would be questioning the quality of the plastic used, as well as the construction methods. Personally I wouln't trust it, but hey that is strictly my opinion. Once you beef it up w/ some 3/4" in the edges it should be ok, but make sure you do a good job on the top, as that is where a whole lot of the stress is.

I would be real carefull of solvent welding more acrylic onto old acrylic, at least acrylic that has been submerged. I have had very poor luck attempting this, the old stuff crazzes out real bad. This has been true for me using the following products on Plexiglas G, WeldOn 3, WeldOn 4, WeldOn 16 and WeldOn 40. They have all crazed the old acrylic so bad I didn't trust the joint, even where the glue ran onto the old stuff it was just as bad.

Well I have ddi that to many other tanks and have not had anything happen, except goo dthings but Im more worried about the way its was put together, is what im questioning???
