Update:
Some up's some downs: AK dipped about three weeks ago which did hurt a couple SPS. Then this weekend, when I was messing with my return, my bulkhead failed. Long story short I had to pull the tank apart and set it back up. I lost a couple SPS, mostly due to poor handling and temperature, and I damaged a few others. At one point I almost decided to bag this hobby but a trip to IloveReef house and I was fully motivated again! Crazy cool tank! (Also thanks for the hook up BTW!) Here are some update photos after redoing everything and adding some new coral. You can see some corals have damage and are hurting but all in all for pretty much having a disaster I came out ok.

Awesome! I get frustrated at times when so many things go wrong at once. But i love it too much to quit! lol

Your tank looks great you sure know how to make that tank look big
Have you tested your sump for a power outage it looks like you only have like an inch to spare. Or wait is that already with the pump shut off?

Thanks.... It normally it not as full as in those photos, right now with the power off it goes to the brim of the sump.

Wow, awesome pics. I have just bought a Canon Rabel and still trying to fiddle with the settings. Your tips on page 1 gave me some very handle reference. Thanks for sharing.
Tank update: So its been a real bad month for me. A salinity shift wiped out most of my SPS. then I had a VERY bad green hair algae out break. Then when I was scrubbing the algae of the rocks I got stung by a bristle worm and my hand swelled up like a fat kids hand. I ALMOST QUIT this week for good. I have decided to switch to softies and LPS. If anyone has anything of this nature for cheap I would love to get somethings including a RBTA. I am sick of spending lots of $$$$ for having things die. Pls PM me if you have anything. PLs also send encouraging comments as im on the edge of quiting.
Definitely don't quit. If I were you and to help build up your esteem look at hardier corals that really catch your eye! Some that are more forgiving but you enjoy looking at and can handle shifts in your parameters. I'm really impressed with the shots you show of your 40b. Don't get down, you obviously have the eye and knowledge of successful reefkeeping I am sure many others as well as myself look to your tanks build for ideas. Take that to heart.
UPDATE: so I didn't quit and I didn't switch to LPS. I did hit the brakes hard and now I have been enjoying some success. Corals are healthy and growing, most of the older ones have encrusted on the rock work and I have been slowly adding SPS back to the tank. I am excited to make a fish purchase today! Anyways here is my current tank. Photo from my iphone and this morning right when the light kicked on so i is not the best.

Hop, skip and a jump for you actually. (Hop on a plane, skip to the taxi, and jump out of the taxi, prefferably when it is stopped. Though I have found that it is hard to resist the urge to get in there faster then the car can stop)

That's a long hop, skip and jump though!! LOL!! Barrier Reef looks like a really nice place from what I have seen here and they represent themselves really well.

Barrier Reef rocks! All of their livestock is awesome, but if you like clams, that is the place to go! Also bought a Christmas tree worm rock there. Covered with blue, yellow, white, orange, black worms. Love it.
