Has anybody ever used bleach to clean liverock, well, dead and dry liverock. I have 1 pice of rock id like to get white, but not sure how to do it. Someone said that i could use bleach, but he didnt know how.

There is a thread here somewhere that tells you how to do it. I know a few others here have done it. I'm sure they will chime in soon.

I have done it in the past. But not all the rocks came out white. Be sure to de-chlorinate afterwards

Thanks dave. I only have 1 rock. I want to make sure ot IS dead of ALL living anythings. It will be the only rock in an upcoming tank so i want to make sure. I have about 150 pounds of rock to choose from...lol.

NO...LOL. That would be one nig rock! I have about 150 pounds of different rocks to choose from. The one im going to use is about 10 pounds. I would just brush it of, but theres lots of nooks.

I've bleached live rock several times. It's very easy. I use a couple cups of bleach to 5 gallons of water and soak over night. Then rinse a couple times, then soak in a solution of water and dechlorinator at 5 x the recommended strength. Let dry for a couple days.

Took the dive. Bleaching my first rock ever. I cut your recipe in half mfinn. I only needed 1/2 a bucket of water so i only used 1 C. of bleach. Heading off to the petstore to get some dechlorinator for tomorrow. Thanks all.

post a pic when you are done, i would like to know how white it actually gets! thanks

Ok. I will in a bit. I did it already. Got it pretty dang clean. Its not totally white. Which is fine with me. The rock was in my fuge, so it had alot of cheato mixed in along with some hair algae and a lil bit of cyano. Its all gone now!...lol

Sorry. I forgot. Got busy.

i dig it, i just got an old piece of acro, a huge piece that is dead, im thinking about bleaching it and putting it in the tank, i will try to add a pic of it here in a little bit, maybe you can tell me if it is a good idea

Think its pretty white already...lol. You can try it if you want. I did my rock cuz it had so much "stuff" on it that i didnt want in my new nano build.

mostly to kill anything that is on it, like scent or anything really, more like a hypo treatment than anything, i really don't want to contaminate my display tank but i think it would look pretty good in it
