10am.--Turned off skimmer and treated tank.
10:45am--shrimp seem OK-not much movement on crabs :( -acro crab is wasted.
11:30am--hermits are either dead or really stunned.
NOON--cleaner and blood red shrimp still hanging in there-can see a few bugs, but they aren't moving-pod population seems to be taking a hit.
1pm--Noticing a little more polyp extension than I usually get-there are a few hermits stumbling around.
3pm.--my green table is slimimg quite a bit, but with more polyp extension than ever-not seeing any red bugs on anything.
4pm--turned skimmer back on, did a 30 gallon water change and threw carbon into sump. My chesterfiedensis (?) is showing more polyps than it has in 6 months,
5:30pm--I see more crabs moving around, not many pods in the fuge tho.
7:30pm--NO BUGS ARE VISIBLE
10pm--looks like 1 cleaner shrimp is on it's way out, but I did see 4 emerald crabs.

That was my day in a nutshell. All in all, I'm pretty satisfied that I got alot of the bugs out of the system. I am going to treat again next Saturday, and take a look at things in general to see if I am gonna complete the whole treatment a 3rd time. We'll see if the shrimp make it thru next time!!

Excellent Charlie! Glad you were able to get the treatment done, and could see them going away. They're teeny little things, aren't they? It's tough knowing that you are putting something in your tank that will kill your crustaceans, but I think your corals will show the difference.

The things about that is, you know you can replace your crabs and such, but some of the corals would be hard to find again, and with the risk involved anymore, you just have to "GIT ER DONE". :D :D
I am just hoping that my pod population will come back. I can seed from my 80, which is probably what will end up happening. I guess a mandarin is out of the question, huh????

Glad it went well.

Also changes your trading a bit - but then again, once your affected corals take off again ... you won't have any space left :D

A day in the shortened life of a red bug. Or
A tale of the bug reaper. Or
The redbuginator. Or
Charlie and the extermination factory.
I could go on. but I wont so you guys dont kick me off the board. LOL
Sorry about the shimp and pods, but rock on about the dead bugs.

Wait a go Charlie. Any bug-killer is friend of mine. Lets all work to stop spreading them to other hobbiest and get our tanks back in tip-top shape. Glad things went well.

The BugFather Vs. The Buginatior
Whach yoo lookin aht.. Ehh.
The Redbuginator T-shirt would be great.

We obviously need a graphics designer to get this goin. I don't think a stick figure drawing of a red bug is gonna cut it if we plan to market these. :D :D :D

Made you a little something Charlie ; ) heh hope you like it

OMG! That is hysterical!!!

Hey charlie, one thing I wanted to mention. You said you turned off you skimmer. It is preffered that you simple stop injecting air and run the water through your skimmer so every nook and cranny of your tank gets hit with the interceptor. Though the chances of a bug sitting in your skimmer and living long enough to make it back to an acro are slim to none it is still a good practice.

Just dosed about 5 minutes ago for mine. My second round with bugs, interceptor worked great for me last time.

Erik, I meant to say I turned the air off to the skimmer  . Good catch tho. That's how my skimmer got so clean yesterday. It's amazing how clean you can get something when there is no activity!!

Well, I think the headcount is complete :( :(
Lost 1 acro crab
1 cleaner shrimp
all the micro blue leg hermits
all the scarlet hermits

Isn't reeftopia gonna love me??????????????? Still have at least one treatment to go.

bummer Charlie, Maybe reeftopia will give you a coffee cup, I got one. Hey in the future do you think it possible to catch the hermits and such with krill wrapped in pantyhose? Steve

You know Steve, I thought about that, but in a 300 gallon system I was never gonna get all anyways. I guess I just gotta take my lumps and go for a Reeftopia coffee cup :) :) . I don't mind talking to Edie. :D :D .
If I have to treat again past the next couple of weekends, I may try that, for sure.
I think I am gonna cut back on the amount of hermits anyways, and maybe just go with 100 of the micro blue legs, and more of the scarlets. I have never had a problem with the scarlets.

I love the scarlets myself. I think that is what I am going to stick with on any future purchases. Tell Eddie that Willis needs a Reeftopia dog bowl. LOL
